TNA Bound for Glory 2011: Shaping Up to Be a Make-or-Break Moment

Anthony PetronzioJul 19, 2011

As a TNA fan, I can say I'm very happy with the product that Impact Wrestling has given us recently.

Impact has taken steps in the right direction, with wrestling mattering more than it has in the past, new and young wrestlers being major players, and creative ideas such as the Bound for Glory series.

Right now TNA is very heavily pushing the BFG series as part of the even bigger promotion for the Bound For Glory pay-per-view. Every year, we are told how Bound For Glory is the biggest PPV in company history, but this year's could be the one that fits that title.

The Bound for Glory series is the perfect example of the hype surrounding this PPV.

For a while now, the heavyweight championship has felt stale, with Mr. Anderson and Sting being the only real contenders.

Now, TNA is giving the title the hype it deserves, but it won't matter if the BFG series doesn't deliver. I'm not very concerned about being disappointed, as everyone in the series is very talented and able to put on an entertaining match.

If TNA can deliver a quality heavyweight championship match from this series, it could be the gold they have been looking to strike.

TNA's marketing department has also already made Bound for Glory the company's biggest PPV event in years.

Even in June, TNA was constantly telling viewers about the BFG series, and now during Impact broadcasts, two-minute video montages are shown telling viewers how much Bound for Glory means to the wrestlers.

It almost makes me forget that Hardcore Justice and No Surrender haven't taken place.

If all this marketing leads to an exceptional PPV, then TNA might have found its big break: Bound for Glory can become its Wrestlemania, the main focal point of their storylines and angles.

It would also go a long way toward keeping viewers around. Plus, a good PPV would be praised all across the wrestling media, making wrestling fans who wouldn't normally tune in to Impact more likely to watch.

However, for all the good this Bound for Glory could do, it could also be a huge blow to TNA's credibility.

Nothing is worse than enduring a huge buildup to something, only to walk away disappointed.

For example, if the Victory Road debacle were to repeat itself at Bound for Glory, or if there were a "takeover"—as there was at last year's BFG—fans would be outraged that they spent months waiting for this PPV, only to be slapped in the face.

With the way Impact has been going, I'm confident TNA can live up to the buildup they've already generated for Bound for Glory.

The next three months are some of the most important in company history.

A fan can only hope they don't drop the ball.
