Destination X: 10 Reasons to Watch and Full Card with Predictions

Charlie GJun 1, 2018

Destination X is right around the corner and it's making me feel extra generous.

So generous that I feel like giving you, the reader, two slideshows in one.

This two for one slideshow will feature 10 reasons to watch Destination X live this Sunday on pay-per-view and also contain my predictions for every match on the card.

IMPACT Wrestling presents Destination X on July 10, 2011. A special LIVE pay-per-view fully devoted to what put TNA on the map many years ago: The X Division.

There are seven matches announced for the event and one of the seven is a championship match. There are two Ultimate X matches announced. One match will feature four competitors all fighting in an Ultimate X for a contract in IMPACT Wrestling.

The card is full of star power with guys like AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Jerry Lynn, RVD, Samoa Joe, Kazarian, Austin Aries, Low Ki, Alex Shelley, Jack Evans and many more!

First up, 10 Reasons to watch Destination X!

A Night of Returns

1 of 20

One reason to watch Destination X this Sunday is for all of the returns.

The return of Austin Aries, Low Ki, Jerry Lynn, the six-sided ring, the Ultimate X and possibly Douglas Williams' mystery opponent.

Three, possibly four, big former TNA superstars will return for maybe one more night.

TNA finds their identity once again in using a six-sided ring.

Finally, the ultimate test in the X Division. The Ultimate X.

Douglas Williams Mystery Opponent

2 of 20

This past week we've heard that Douglas Williams say that he is planning on issuing an open challenge at Destination X.

An open challenge to any X Division star.

Past, present or future.

Who will accept the former X Division Champion's challenge?

Will it be a former TNA talent like Petey Williams, Jay Lethal, Shark Boy, Sonjay Dutt, Jimmy Rave, Kid Kash or anyone else?

Will it be Homicide, since The British Invasion is in a feud with Mexican America?

Will it be a new face in IMPACT Wrestling trying to defeat Williams?

We'll find out who accepts Williams' open challenge this Sunday at Destination X.

Samoa Joe vs. Kazarian

3 of 20

I think this match can sell tickets alone.

I know I'd buy into it.

Samoa Joe and Kazarian are both multiple-time X Division Champions but I can't remember the last time these two squared off one-on-one, if they ever have!

Joe and Kaz are two tremendous homegrown TNA talents.

I know they're part of the reason why I started to watch TNA.

Who will emerge victorious; Samoa Joe? Or Kazarian?

The New Talent

4 of 20

IMPACT Wrestling part-time new comers, Zema Ion and Jack Evans.

Ion and Evans won their respective three-way X Division match-up to qualify for this Destination X match.

If you missed your qualifying matches, then you missed something good but at the same time, you're in for a treat.

Both guys eat, sleep and breath X Division (Evans more so than Ion).

New No. 1 Contender to X Division Title

5 of 20

Over the course of the past three or four months there has only been a handful of challengers for the X Division title.

All I can think of are Kazarian, Brian Kendrick and Abyss getting the title matches.

Now it's either Robbie E, Alex Shelley, Amazing Red or Shannon Moore getting the right to challenge for the X Division title.

Who's next in line for a title shot?

X Division Championship Match

6 of 20

Brian Kendrick vs. Abyss for the X Division Championship.

Abyss has had a dominant about two month reign as champion. Nobody seems to stand a chance against The Monster.

Can Brian Kendrick finally bring down the Monster in this David vs. Goliath style match-up?

Will Kendrick fall victim to Abyss?

RVD vs. Jerry Lynn

7 of 20

Two guys who were X Division before there was an X Division.

The feud between Lynn and RVD has been alive longer than the X Division and IMPACT Wrestling.

On IMPACT we've seen a damn good preview of this during the Four Corners match.

This will be only Jerry Lynn's second match in IMPACT Wrestling and it is against the former TNA World Heavyweight Champion, Rob Van Dam.

Jerry Lynn proved he still 'got it' this past Thursday. Is 'it' enough to surpass and defeat, "The Whole F'N Show" RVD?

New Member to the IMPACT Roster

8 of 20

Austin Aries, Zema Ion, Low Ki and Jack Evans will all battle it out in an Ultimate X match with the winner being granted an IMPACT Wrestling contract.

Evans and Zema are new to IMPACT, while Aries and Low Ki were formerly employed under the TNA brand name.

I expect this to be a very close match.

We will see a wrestler be added to the IMPACT Wrestling roster within one night. All four men are one victory away from becoming a full-time wrestler contracted under IMPACT Wrestling.

AJ Styles vs. Daniels

9 of 20

AJ Styles vs. Daniels has been a feud that has been around since TNA's inception.

These two are so evenly matched in-ring wise, but one man has proved to be the better of these two former TNA Tag Team Champions.

That man is "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles.

AJ has found more success in TNA than Daniels, and Daniels seemed jealous of AJ this past Thursday.

This match should be an instant classic, and the chances of a Daniels heel turn are high in my book.

A Full Night Devoted to the X Division

10 of 20

Destination X is from the X Division, for the X Division.

Simple as that.

The End of Slideshow No. 1

11 of 20

That does it for slideshow No. 1.

Next up is my Destination X predictions.

Did I mention that Christy Hemme, the hottest ring announcer ever, will be at Destination X?

Destination X: Full Card and Predictions

12 of 20

Now onto the second of this dual-packed slideshow.

Destination X predictions!

Samoa Joe vs. Kazarian

13 of 20

Samoa Joe hasn't won a match in weeks, maybe months.

The last win I remember was the one against Amazing Red on IMPACT (2 weeks before Slammiversary) when Bischoff first declared war on the X Division. Even that was a squash match.

I'm looking forward to this match. Two homegrown talents. Multiple time X Division Champions.

I expect Samoa Joe's losing streak to continue.

Following the loss, Joe will either attack Kazarian and elongate their feud, or this defeat will cause a change in character in Samoa Joe.

Winner: Kazarian

Douglas Williams vs. ???

14 of 20

This past Thursday on IMPACT, Douglas Williams said that he plans on issuing an open challenge at Destination X.

It's very tough to decide the outcome of a match when you only know one participant.

I highly suspect that Homicide will be the mystery opponent because of the British Invasion's ongoing feud with Mexican America.

If Homicide is the opponent, then Williams will win.

If the opponent is a past X Division talent, like Petey Williams, then I expect Williams to win over the returning superstar for one night only.

Winner: Varies.

If Homicide is the opponent, then Douglas Williams wins.

If a past X Division talent is the opponent, Douglas Williams will lose.

Alex Shelley vs. Amazing Red vs. Robbie E vs. Shannon Moore

15 of 20

This is an Ultimate X No. 1 contenders match with the winner being granted the right to challenge for the X Division Championship.

I think this match is pretty easy to call.

Robbie E and Shannon Moore haven't even competed in more than three Ultimate X matches. I believe Robbie competed in one at Victory Road and Shannon confirmed via Twitter that Sunday will be his first.

Alex Shelley and Amazing Red should be the favorites in this match.

I believe that Alex Shelley will win the No. 1 contenders Ultimate X match for a few reasons.

1.) Shelley is the only guy in this match that has gotten TV time in the past couple of weeks.

2.) Alex Shelley is easily the most popular X Division star in IMPACT Wrestling today.

Winner: Alex Shelley

X Division Title: Brian Kendrick vs. Abyss

16 of 20

Abyss has had a solid two month reign as champion. He seemed unbeatable during his reign.

Abyss only defended the title twice to my knowledge: on IMPACT versus Kendrick and at Slammiversary against Kazarian and Kendrick.

Abyss became champion in Eric Bischoff's hopes of killing the X Division and job well done by Bischoff.

Abyss has run his course as X Division Champion and Destination X seems like the perfect place to bring the X Division back on track.

Winner: Brian Kendrick

RVD vs. Jerry Lynn

17 of 20

I said earlier that this match is older than TNA.

Lynn and RVD were X Division before there was an X Division.

The four corners match on IMPACT was a great preview of Destination X.

This has all the potential to be match of the night. Lynn proved that he still has some gas in the tank when in comes to wrestling.

RVD vs. Lynn should be a very competitive match, and I see RVD getting the win, but both guys showing a mutual respect after the match.

Winner: RVD

Austin Aries vs. Zema Ion vs. Low Ki vs. Jack Evans

18 of 20

The winner of this Ultimate X also wins an IMPACT Wrestling contract.

This is the toughest match to predict, no doubt in my mind.

You have former X Division Champion Low Ki and former ROH World Champion, Austin Aries with a man who can defy gravity. Jack Evans.

This should be a very exciting match.

I'm a fan of everyone in this match and they have earned their rightful spot in this match by defeating two other challengers on IMPACT.

I don't want Zema Ion or Low Ki winning this match.

Zema Ion isn't the right choice especially with such talent as Aries, Evans and Low Ki in the match.

Low Ki's move set is too repetitive for my tastes.

I'm stuck between Aries and Evans.

Both guys are top X Division talents.

Aries has the look, mic skills (watch ROH) and in-ring skills to be X Division Champion. On the other hand, Jack Evans can almost defy gravity and definitely has the in-ring skills to be a top contender and champion one day.

Between the two, Aries and Evans, I cannot choose.

It is way too hard to pick between them.

Winner: Undecided

AJ Styles vs. Daniels

19 of 20

AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels

Two top names that shaped what the X Division is today.

I predict this match to be the match of the night.

AJ and Daniels, two "real-life'"best friends and they are ready to throw down one more time.

AJ and Daniels were the centerpiece of the X Division back in the day and it looks like Destination X will be a flashback to those days.

AJ and Daniels are the perfect match for each other. They wrestle similar styles, but one man's accomplishments really outweigh the others.

AJ has accomplished more than Daniels and that makes Daniels jealous leading to a possible heel turn.

For that heel turn to happen, AJ Styles needs to win, and I think he will.

Winner: AJ Styles
