Manchester United Transfer News: United Holding Out Hope for Alexis Sanchez?

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

Manchester United have already made the biggest moves so far this summer, but they are still very much in play for a number of other players.

The UEFA Champions League runner-up is in a battle with the very team that beat them in Wembley Stadium a few weeks ago, Barcelona, for the services of 22-year-old Chilean sensation, Alexis Sanchez.

Barca, however, is strapped financially and will only be able to secure one big move this summer, and that decision seems to have come down to Cesc Fabregas of Arsenal versus Sanchez.

According to a Mirror Football report:

"

Barca’s “final” bid for Sanchez is £24m plus an extra £10m in appearances, a package that has yet to be accepted by the Italian club—with United’s offer a greater amount in guaranteed cash.

And amazingly the £10m add-ons are based on Sanchez playing in 50 per cent of games in the next four seasons—money that may never come.

"

Sanchez currently stars for Udinese while Fabregas, captain of the club at the Emirates, is a boyhood Catalan and has wanted to return to the Camp Nou for some time now.

Barca has a ton of talent everywhere, as evidenced by their silverware and payroll, and even Fabregas will have a challenge at his position.

Sanchez though, only 22 years old, would certainly not be guaranteed to play in 50 percent of the the club's games over the next four seasons. And if Barca is to secure Fabregas' signature from Arsenal, it would render their bid for Sanchez useless anyway.

That means Udinese would be wise to look back to Manchester United, whose £28 million bid for the winger holds more "real" money and has a great chance of happening.

Sir Alex Ferguson has been spending money like water so far and has already acquired the signatures of Phil Jones, Ashley Young and David de Gea. No player is over 25 years old, and they all have the potential to be elite stars for the club at Old Trafford now and in the future.

Arsenal players return from holiday this week and we should expect some decisions from boss Arsene Wenger sooner than later, especially with City landing Gael Clichy and working on Samir Nasri.

That means United could be back in play for Sanchez, who favors a move to the Catalan giant club though, this week if Fabregas is secured.
