WWE: Why Alberto Del Rio Should Not Win Raw's Money in the Bank Ladder Match
Alberto Del Rio's meteoric rise through the WWE looked to finish it's historic destiny at WrestleMania XXVII.
After Del Rio had won the Royal Rumble, he challenged the World Heavyweight Champion at the time, Edge, to a match at the previously mentioned WrestleMania.
Edge retained his world title, in what ultimately was his last match in the WWE.
After another failed attempt to his achieve his goal, the Mexican Aristocrat was sent packing in the WWE's A-Show, Monday Night Raw.
Rumors began swirling that Del Rio was going to face John Cena for the WWE Championship. However, that has yet to happen.
Instead, Del Rio attempted to revive a feud with Rey Mysterio, which fell flat on its face for numerous reasons (many of which were related to John Morrison's neck injury).
Without any direction, Del Rio spiraled into the depths of mid-card hell, until a mediocre feud with The Big Show began.
While I do not feel the need to rehash this, it was poorly booked and Del Rio gained absolutely nothing from it.
Now, with the Money In The Bank pay-per-view just around the corner, many feel as if he is the favorite to win Raw's version of the annual spectacular. The problem is, I feel like this would be a complete waste.
Yes, I said a complete waste.
One could argue Alberto has been a victim of circumstance in the past number of months. First was Edge's retirement, next was John Morrison's neck injury. Without these two things happening, Del Rio probably would have held top gold in the company already.
However, need I remind you of CM Punk and his Straight Edge Society in 2010?
Punk's stable consisted of four members: Luke Gallows, Joey Mercury, Serena and Punk himself. This stable showed great potential, but Serena's firing and an injury to Mercury was the death blow of sorts, and the SES was reeling from a series of unfortunate circumstances, much like their Mexican coworker.
Soon Punk found himself in his own feud with The Big Show, a trade to Raw, and an injury that had him out for months.
Still, CM Punk got as much heat as ever upon his return. Meanwhile, Del Rio never was injured, and receives little reaction from the crowd.
This not only shows that Punk is flat out better than Del Rio, but how much can you invest in one talent before enough is enough?
Also, Kofi Kingston is very over, despite being in the mid-card with the exception of one feud with Randy Orton, and we all know what happened there.
Think about it. Del Rio got a huge push from the start, won the Royal Rumble, was in one of the top matches at WrestleMania, yet he still doesn't receive much crowd reaction.
Maybe it's time to turn him face, but regardless, he still shouldn't win the Money In The Bank match. His gimmick is far beyond stale, and he has gotten chance after chance.
Heck, if the WWE wants him to main event SummerSlam, his previous push from SmackDown should make him main event worthy anyway.
If it's not, then what exactly does push him over the top? Winning the WWE Championship from a weakened John Cena, only to lose it a month later?
Um, I don't think so.
Del Rio needs a win over a credible opponent as if Rey Mysterio, Christian and the Royal Rumble weren't enough (and it evidently wasn't).
Not to mention, if CM Punk stays, he should main event SummerSlam without question.
In my opinion, when you have possibly the most over mid-carders in the WWE (Kofi Kingston & Zack Ryder) and main event guys far more over than this one (The Miz, Rey Mysterio, R-Truth, even Alex Riley), why do we want to give Alberto Del Rio another accomplishment to flush down the toilet?
Because he has talent?
I agree he has limitless talent, but Del Rio obviously needs to be built up again, and not at the expense of a more deserving superstar.
What is your opinion? Does Alberto Del Rio deserve to win Money In The Bank, or has he had enough chances to meet his self-proclaimed destiny?
