TNA Impact! Wrestling (6/9) Review and Thoughts
The June 9th edition of TNA Impact! Wrestling opens with a video package featuring around last week's firing of Mick Foley. After the introduction video, Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff make their way to the ring. Mr. Anderson and Sting follow to hype up their match at Slammiversary this Sunday. Sting says he must win the world championship to keep his focus on Hogan and Bischoff. He also mentioned that he wants the "old Hulk Hogan back," and is planning on doing so by eliminating Bischoff.
Mickie James and Tara v. Angelina Love and Winter
Rating: 2.5/5.
There were some impressive spots in the match but I really wish Mickie James would be utilized better. Also, this storyline with Love and Winter gets weirder each week and she doesn't belong in that character.
Backstage we see Bobby Rude, James Storm and Alex Shelley. After a commercial break, the Crimson and Samoa Joe bar fight airs.
Mexican America v. Alex Shelley and James Storm
Rating: 4/5.
Good match with lots of action. For the first time teaming together, Storm and Shelley looked impressive except for the one mistake that cost the match.
Backstage is Mr. Anderson and Crimson. Another commercial break, followed by Hulk Hogan and Mexican America talking. They air a Jeff Jarrett and Kurt Angle video package and go to commercial.![]()
Back from break, Jarrett and Angle are in the ring confronting each other. After we see ODB backstage, Bully Ray comes out to the ring and issues an open challenge for anyone in the back except for Devon.
Bully Ray v. Rob Van Dam
Rating: 3/5.
Decent match. Bully Ray plays one of the greatest heels I have ever seen in wrestling. I also enjoyed how AJ Styles suddenly appeared in the crowd watching the match.
Backstage, Brian Kendrick and Kazarian meet Abyss, who makes the match a three-way at Slammiversary for the X-Division title.
ODB v. Velvet Sky
Rating: 3/5.
Quite a physical match but it seemed a bit messy between the two. This storyline, just like the Angelina Love experiment, needs to end after Slammiversary.
Mr. Anderson and Gunner v. Sting and Eric Young
Rating: 3.5/5.
Ok, main event and I felt it was too short. They seem to be ready to push Gunner into a main event player by pinning Sting for the win.
We cut to backstage interviews for the final hype of TNA Slammiversary.
PERAGINE'S THOUGHTS:
Overall TNA Impact! Wrestling Rating: 3/5
Not exactly a home run show for TNA but it did just enough to promote Slammiversary. There were decent matches and the time length of them weren't bad. However, it seemed the main focus was backstage segments and footage to promote the upcoming pay per view.
