WWE News: The 15 Most Ridiculous Interviews in Wrestling History
Pro wrestling is known for its over-the-top, soap-opera nature of entertainment. The intensity in which most pro wrestling-related performances are executed gives way to both uncontrolled brilliance as well as unmitigated disaster.
One of the most powerful promotional tools in the pro wrestling industry lies within the interview. Usually conducted to emphasize the importance of a storyline or wrestler, the interview can be instrumental in getting key stars over while strengthening a promotion.
Likewise, pro wrestling interviews have unintentionally created some of the most memorable moments in pro wrestling history. Many infamous interviews have modernized pro wrestlers of the past as their shining moment alongside a pro wrestling correspondent immortalized them through the power of the internet.
The timeless clips should do all the talking for themselves. There really is nothing left to say but: "Back to you, Jim."

15. The Rock makes Coach Dance the Charleston
1 of 15The Rock's romp with Coach on a memorable episode of SmackDown was one of the more entertaining WWE interviews despite its tomfoolery.
As the Rock attempted to cut a promo, he quickly noticed Coach's attentiveness slipping away. The Rock immediately called him on his disinterest and prompted him to perform the Charleston, made famous in South Carolina, much to the delight of the Southern-based SmackDown crowd.
14. Hulkamania Runs Mild on a Promo Against Vince McMahon
2 of 15It wasn't too long after Hulk Hogan's return to WWE in 2002 that he found himself feuding with Vince McMahon on the SmackDown brand.
Hulk Hogan rarely came across a promo he couldn't cut, but this particular night saw Hogan involved in a painful segment where formulating a fluid sentence was a habitual struggle.
13. Psycho Sid: "You'e on Live, Hoss"
3 of 15Psycho Sid's charisma and affinity for working the "big man" style made him a big star in the prolific 90s national wrestling scene.
During the course of his career, however, Sid developed an unfortunate knack for screwing up a promo or two, including this pre-pay-per-view promo where he requested a retake.
Unbeknownst to the big man, he was on live and had to keep the botched "first take."
12. Shawn Michaels Lays Down for Nobody...Brother!
4 of 15Nobody can truly claim to be a wrestling fan without at least attempting to do an impression of Hulk Hogan, but few did an impression as uproarious as the one Shawn Michaels did on RAW back in 2005.
During what was supposed to be a lengthy dream feud, Michaels hurled a series of pot shots at Hulk Hogan in a Larry King style interview segment. Despite the obnoxiousness of Michaels lampooning Hogan, much truth was said in jest, as Michaels has expressed resentment of Hogan as the biggest star in wrestling history despite his shortcomings in the ring.
Michaels was far from done with his satirical actions towards Hulk Hogan following the faux interview. During the actual Hogan-Michaels match at SummerSlam, a match where Hogan reportedly insisted on winning without "returning the favor," Michaels made a mockery of the entire contest with brash overselling throughout.
11. Kane Grills Jim Ross Minus the Barbecue Sauce
5 of 15WWE's on-paper ideas for both gimmicks of the Undertaker and Kane should have been laughed right out of the creative meeting. Fortunately for the history of pro wrestling, they were not and both big men went on to enjoy prolific careers in WWE.
However the supernatural gimmicks of the Undertaker and Kane have not been without crappy booking despite their unlikely successes.
Following the much publicized removal of Kane's mask on an episode of RAW, Jim Ross met with the big red machine to conduct an interview with the newly unmasked superstar.
What ensued was the sheer personification of a ridiculous interview.
A deranged Kane would eventually become fed up with Ross' line of questioning. He proceeded to set fire to the WWE Hall of Famer while then RAW GM Steve Austin stood in an arena of fans sitting on their hands as the interview was taped and shown on the Titantron.
Austin tried his best to hold the segment together, but it was reduced to an awkward mess that hardly did its job in getting Kane over as a deranged individual.
10. Lex Luger Gets into a Fight with a Promo and Loses
6 of 15In the early days of post-apocalyptic (after the death of WCW) wrestling landscape, Lex Luger downgraded to the independent wrestling scene.
Luger was graced with the otherwise simple task of cutting a promo for an upcoming match, yet the minute he opened his mouth, the entire segment fell apart.
Luger attempted to supercede his futile attempt at a promo by taking his shirt off, but the shirt would have none of it as Luger struggled to tear it off before rambling and storming off in a combination of frustration and embarrassment.
9. Road Warrior Hawk Stumbles into a Struggling Vader Promo
7 of 15One of Kane's first big matches in WWE came against Vader, in what can easily be considered a cursed feud for the legendary super heavyweight.
Here's Vader attempting to cut a promo on Kane prior to a pay-per-view match during an interview with Sunny. The promo didn't need any help bombing, as Vader wasn't very convincing of what time it was; however, Road Warrior Hawk inadvertently walked in midway through the interview, causing even more unintentional comedy.
8. Eli Cottonwood: Mustache
8 of 15WWE NXT has produced some of the worst televised segments in WWE history, and that's saying something. Among them is this painfully awkward rendition of an Eli Cottonwood promo as the near seven-foot superstar was tasked with talking about a mustache.
The less-than-promising prompt produced a train wreck as slow moving and plodding as Cottonwood was in the ring.
7. Titus O'Neil Loses with a Promo About Winning
9 of 15WWE NXT could easily dominate this entire list if I so chose, but I'm going to limit the NXT entries for ridiculous interviews to two.
Titus O'Neil's horrendous "make it a win" promo received some stiff competition from Michael McGillicutty's genesis speech, but in the end O'Neil was just too bad to be kept off this list.
6. Randy Savage Is Still Spinning
10 of 15Randy Savage is known for being an eccentric character, and it's that eccentricity that made him so brilliant both in and out of the ring.
However, too much eccentricity is never a good thing, as illustrated by a farce of an interview where Savage talked without saying anything.
Like his personality, Savage was all over the place both figuratively and literally as he seemed to bizarrely migrate to another side of the screen with every blink. Poor Mean Gene kept soldiering on throughout the interview with well-intended questions, but Savage compromised the entire segment with his strange behavior.
5. Vader Describes His Physical Shortcomings Following Loss to Kane
11 of 15Vader's cursed feud with Kane, that saw him lose a mask vs. mask match, would feature yet another unintentionally hilarious promo from Vader.
Following his loss to a then-surging Kane, Vader was asked about his performance by a young(er) Michael Cole.
Further description would do his response little justice.
4. Prepare to Be Shocked by Fred Ott
12 of 15Remember when Ric Flair had his own talk show in WCW? You should, since it was the platform for one of the most infamous interview segments ever.
Many will feel that this classic "Shockmaster" segment of 1993 is rated too low despite being in the top five; however, I recently rated this segment No. 1 on a recent list of botched entrances, and it's time for a new leader in the clubhouse.
3. The Ultimate Warrior Threatens Hogan, Hogan's Pilot, Before WrestleMania VI
13 of 15The Ultimate Warrior was filled with words. It's just too bad that he never seemed to be able to put them together in a coherent sentence. Warrior's short, yet legendary, career in WWE was chock-filled with baffling promos that had no head or tail.
His most infamously head scratching sermon came at the expense of Hulk Hogan leading up to WrestleMania VI where Warrior laid out his plans to crash Hogan's plane.
2. Booker T Calls "Hoke Hogan" a Bad Word
14 of 15Booker T has had a rough go of it as a SmackDown announcer, and this promo in his Harlem Heat days could have been a foreshadowing of the future Hall of Famer's struggles with color commentary.
During an interview with Mean Gene Okerlund, Booker T became so fired up in threatening Hulk Hogan, that instead of demeaning him with his signature "sucka" line, Book dropped an N-Bomb on Hogan.
Booker T immediately recoiled in horror upon his faux pas, while Okerlund didn't miss a beat in continuing the interview as he turned his attention to Stevie Ray. God love him.
1. Don't Get the Iron Sheik Started About Brian Blair
15 of 15Iron Sheik's homophobic rant against Brian Blair has received millions of views online, making it one of the most notorious pro wrestling interviews in history.
Sheik's reverence of performing at WrestleMania III in front of a (unsubstantiated) crowd of 93,000, in the Pontiac Dome of Detroit, Michigan, quickly turned to resentment as he spoke of Brian Blair and his bad intentions for the former Killer Bee.
A similarly ridiculous interview, shot during a RAW in Madison Square Garden, is included as a clip above due to the graphic nature of Sheik's rant against Brian Blair. Mature audiences can view this much talked about interview here.
