WWE Draft 2011: Why We Should All Be Glad Cody Rhodes Hasn't Been Drafted...Yet

Daniel MasseyApr 26, 2011

This is just a short article to express my delight at the fact that Cody Rhodes was not drafted to Raw last night—and give you the reasons why it would have been a bad idea.

Cody Rhodes has established himself as one of the best characters to come out of the WWE for a long time. His mask, accompanied by his hooded coat and eerie lighting, has given him an image the likes of which the WWE hasn’t seen for over seven years.

When you match this to his skills on the microphone, you have a successful formula. His promos on SmackDown as of late have been fantastic and he has had me hanging on to every word. The monotone voice he projects, adds to the dimension of his character. It makes him seem more unstable.

His demeanour in the ring allows the audience to become immersed with the character and makes you believe he actually has a mental condition, making him more violent and aggressive.

The time he gets on SmackDown to show his skills, allows further development of his character.

Had he been drafted to Raw, you have to feel that all this hard work and dedication would have been buried.

The shorter match times on Raw wouldn’t have given him enough time to show what his character is capable of—effectively killing any sadistic tendencies he has built up over the past few months on SmackDown.

Another reason why he is better off not being drafted is Rey Mysterio. Had they both been drafted, it would more than likely have ended their feud, which many predicted would end in a mask versus mask match.

Now that they have been separated, we can be spared of this match that would have potentially dissected Cody’s character, by removing the one thing that gives him this alter-ego. This feud is now looking like it will end at Extreme Rules which is the best idea in my opinion. Hopefully Cody will come out on top.

This separation should also stop the attacks by Rey Mysterio—where he frequently gets the better of Cody and embarrasses him by forcing him to retreat to the back.

This gives Cody a chance to start a new feud where the audience doesn’t have to be worried that he will be upstaged time after time by an underdog who does the 619 at every opportunity.

Have him feud with Tyler Reks, or if he is ready for the main event—Randy Orton, now that he has been drafted to SmackDown.

Obviously, all this may be wishful thinking as Cody Rhodes could still be drafted at noon today. I personally hope not, as I believe this would be a huge mistake. SmackDown needs Cody Rhodes just as much as he needs SmackDown.

Please let me know if you agree with me or not in the comments section below. As you know by now, I do my best to reply to all comments that warrant it.

Thanks for reading.
