Westbrook #1? According To X-49er Roger Craig's New Blog

Yes, that's right, he's saying take Brian Westbrook above LT and AP when you do your Fantasy Football draft.  Sounds crazy at first, but he makes an interesting argument in his new blog (Roger Craig's FFL Rush).  Here's my disclaimer - I work with him, but I don't always agree with him.  What's cool about Roger's blog is that he takes advantage of an analytic tool called Spotfire, which is loaded with 2005-2007 data on offensive players.

Using a combination of rare all-pro experience and an analysis tool provides a unique perspective for readers of the blog. For example, how many FFL bloggers can say they are mentoring Frank Gore?  To take it further, anyone can play around with the tool themselves to slice and dice data further.  It's one thing to get expert input, but no one can tell you all the scenarios that happens in a draft.  In my office league Brady, Romo and Brees went 5,6,7, which kind of throws all your expectations out.

So, back to why Roger said you should take Westbrook at #1.  Roger's point, illustrated with a graphic from Spotfire is that when healthy (and you know one of the top 5 goes down every year), Westbrook puts up just about as many points as anyone else, but he's the most consistent at putting up the points. IE, you can rely on the guy.  In a video on the site, Roger also explains that with Kevin Curtis going down, Westbrook will have even more receptions.   Of course, who knows which McNabb shows up.

Check out the site and even better, the tool.
