Nnamdi Trading Silver & Black For Black & Gold?
So this is just a Rumor so far. (But you know how rumors go!) This is not my rumor so I can't take credit for it, but when I read it, it started to make sense. (even if only contractually). The rumor is that the Raiders will make a Draft Day trade with the Steelers.....Nnamdi Asomugha and our 8th Pick for Ben Rothlisberger and their 18th Pick. We would then pick Mike Iupati at #18 (provided he is still available which is highly likely). I saw this posted on www.raiderfans.net and was very intrigued by it. As I said, I am quoting some one elses claimed rumor so this probably has no truth to it what so ever, but just think about it for a minute.
I love Nnamdi and would love to see him retire in the Silver & Black but I also would love to see him get a Super Bowl ring, even if it's not with us. Lets look the need. The Steelers, who place a premium on high character guys and also need a corner back, get one of the best characters in the NFL in Nnamdi and arguably one of if not the best CB in the NFL today. We get a much needed veteran leader at QB (even though he has some character and legal issues) who will instantly upgrade our offense. The Steelers get to draft a QB in the Top 10 and we still get to upgrade our O-Line with a solid 1st Rounder.
The contractual argument that was made was that Nnamdi's contract is huge and also he's not getting any younger. We trade him now and unload that contract while he still has a high trade value. I don't know all the ins and outs of Ben's contract but from what I heard on NFL.com a week ago, his is structured in such a way that even a small market team (i.e. The Raiders) could afford it. Hhhhhmmmm!?
Now I don't want to rehash all the same old comments from before about Ben Rothlisberger being a "garbage human being", an "immature a$$hole", etc, etc. But you have to admit that, aside from the looming 2 to 4 game suspension, we really could be a playoff caliber team with Big Ben. He has the big arm that Al Davis covets in a QB and has a hell of lot better pocket presence and football smarts than JaMarcus. The only problem I see with this (from a position standpoint) is that, even though we instantly upgrade our offense, our lack luster defense just got worse. With the exception of our Safeties, our DB unit sucks. What do we do about our CB's now? Joe Hadden will most certainly be gone in Round 1. We would now need to draft 2 Corner Backs instead of just 1.
What do you guys think?
