NFL First Round Mock Draft 2010
Nick BertrandApr 13, 2010
Just a little Draft I threw together. Probably way off but who knows....... enjoy.......
- St.Louis- Sam Bradford (Oklahoma): Ndamokung Suh is hands down the best talent there is to find in this year’s draft. With that being said, the need for a franchise QB is not one that can be overlooked for a 3rd consecutive year. Sam Bradford has a pin-point accurate arm but 2 shoulder injuries leave a serious question mark to his future. Expect the Rams to pull the trigger.
- Detroit- Ndamukong Suh (Nebraska): Dear St. Louis, Thank you. Love, Jim Schwartz As I said above, Ndamukong Suh is the best talent you will find in this year’s draft. It took an amazing 4.5 sack performance in the Big 12 Championship game to get his name out there, and combined with an outstanding combine… Ndamukong Suh is the real deal.
- Tampa Bay- Jason Pierre-Paul (USF): Some people may argue that McCoy should go at this pick, but then again Michael Crabtree should also be an Oakland Raider. Pierre-Paul has met with the ‘Bucs a few times for workouts and word has it that Raheem Morris is sold on his speed rush ability. As a product of USF, look for Tampa to go hometown with the 3rd pick.
- Washington- Russell Okung (Oklahoma State): Russell Okung is a freak at the tackle position. He is most suited to place left tackle, but due to his immense amount of talent he can be flexible in almost any system. Mike Shanahan will quickly implement his zone blocking system and Okung couldn’t fit the Shanahan’s mold more perfectly.
- Kansas City- Eric Berry (Tenn.): Scouts like McShay, Kiper, and Mayock all rave about Berry as the second-coming of Ed Reed. When Mayock speaks, you listen. ‘Nuff said. The guy is just never wrong. However, there seems to be buzz that his defensive scheme in Tennessee may have a difficult transition to the pro game so he likely will slide to this fifth pick even though it is felt he is the top or second best talent in the draft. This could be the pick that when looked back at five years down the road Eric Berry is the most dignified and accomplished player from the draft. Must or Bust here...
- Seattle- Gerald McCoy (Oklahoma): McCoy seems to be the player that could be the best player in the draft or could end up dissapearing. However, at 6 he seems to be a lock to Seattle because of his unbelievable upside.
- Cleveland- Joe Haden (Fla): With a 4.37 40-yard dash time, Joe Haden solidified his fate as a Cleveland Brown. Joe Haden has man-coverage ability that most rookie corners do not possess. He has faced prolific offenses in the SEC and he may have no problems transitioning to the pro game. With the addition of Sheldon Brown, the Browns may be looking at a solidified DB depth chart for the first time in a long time. Holmgren will not pass up on Haden.
- Oakland- Anthony Davis (Rutgers): Let’s be real everyone, we’re talking about Al Davis. There is obviously many tackles that could and should go above Davis but that never stopped Al before (see Heyward-Bey). Anthony Davis was a combine hero, just like Al Davis likes. Goat blood for everyone!
- Buffalo- Bryan Bulaga (Iowa): A blue collar talent that will fit in perfectly in Buffalo. He’s a hard worker who will fill the role of LT perfectly.
- Jacksonville- Derrick Morgan (G.T.): Although the Jaguars just signed Aaron Kampman; one player does not fill the void on the line. The Jaguars got only 2 sacks out of their defensive ends last year. Derrick Morgan is both great against the run and a great pass rusher.
- Denver- Dez Bryant (Ok. St.): Despite the “Off the field issues”, Dez Bryant is the best receiver of his class BY FAR. With Brandon Marshall a Dolphin the Broncos need to address their self-inflicted hole so Dez Bryant can say hello to the Midway.
- Miami Dolphins- C.J. Spiller (Clem): After Miami splashed the biggest trade of the offseason they can turn their focus somewhere else and the ACC’s All-Purpose Yards leader in history with 7588 has reached the big stage. He is the most versatile athlete in the draft due to his ability to run, catch, and return. Think Reggie Bush, without the unbelievable pre-draft hype written all over it. Miami has Brown and Williams but both have question marks. All though I would not expect this pick it would suprise me. However, look for Miami to try and trade out of this pick if there are no players that drop to them. They have no reason to reach for anyone at the 12 spot.
- San Francisco- Trent Williams (Oklahoma): With Joe Haden having already been selected, San Francisco can look in another direction to improve their team with Trent Williams. Williams is valuable because he is an immediate starter and would be an instant upgrade for San Fran.
- Seattle Seahawks- Bruce Campbell (Maryland): With Dez Bryant off the board, look for Seattle to look to the offensive line. Walter Jones retired via a text message and the rest of the line is aging as well. Bruce Campbell is a physical FREAK.
- New York Giants- Rolando McClain (Bama): New York recently released Antonio Pierce. What does this mean? Expect Rolando McClain to go at #15. He is far beyond his years mentally and Nick Saban has quoted saying “he is the quarterback of our defense” Best part of all, he has the physical tools to match. The only reason McClain doesn’t go earlier is the fact that ILB’s are not in high demand this year.
- Tennessee Titans- Dan Williams (Tenn): The Tennessee Titans felt the aftershock of releasing Albert Haynesworth all last season. The league’s best defense in 2008-2009 was the scorn of fantasy owners during the 2009-2010 season. Dan Williams brings back the big daddy in the middle, which will open up things for the pass rush that was so dominant in years past.
- San Francisco- Jimmy Clausen (ND): It’s about time to pull the plug on the Alex Smith project, and the ‘Niners will be ecstatic if Jimmy Clausen falls to them at the 17th pick. And hey, why not take the chance? The last quarterback from ND to come to San Fran worked out pretty well, eh?
- Pittsburgh- Mike Iupati (Idaho): Mike Iupati is a bit of a question mark due to the fact that he comes from a weak conference with Idaho, but his dominance of any and everything in the Senior Bowl helps his stock. In 2009, the Steelers began to shift to a more pass oriented offense and where did that get them? Mediocrity. It’s time to bring back what Pittsburgh Steelers football is all about smash mouth running. Iupati can be the first step.
- Atlanta- Earl Thomas (Texas): Only one word can be used to describe Atlanta’s pass defense: Awful. Mike Smith is a defensive coach so look for him to pick the best defensive player available in Earl Thomas.
- Houston- Kyle Wilson (Boise St.): Without Dunta Robinson, Houston needs someone to take his spot. Kyle Wilson can make an impact from day one.
- Cincinnati- Taylor Mays (USC): Al Davis ignored his conscience like always and decided to pass on Taylor Mays. Taylor Mays has exceptional physical skills, but is often inconsistent in coverage. At the 21st pick, he is a steal for the Bengals.
- New England- Brandon Graham (Michigan): Brandon Graham vastly improved his stock with a great performance at the Senior Bowl. After shipping Seymour off to the Raiders, Graham can fill a huge void on the D-Line.
- Green Bay- Sergio Kindle (Texas): Obviously the only reason I decided to place Sergio Kindle for Green Bay’s pick is the fact that no tackle is worth reaching for left in the first round. Sergio Kindle can be a perfect complement to Clay Matthews in a blitz heavy defensive system.
- Philadelphia- Toby Gerhart (Stanford): Toby Gerhart won’t be your average Stanford craphead like Trent Edwards. He led the NCAA in rushing last season and has size to match his rushing ability. He is a truck that I believe you can not pass up on...
- Baltimore- Jermaine Gresham (Oklahoma): Joe Flacco will be very pleased when Baltimore adds yet another option to their offense. Jermaine Gresham has a few question marks about coming back from a season-ending injury, but he showed promise in previous seasons.
- Arizona- Jerry Hughes (TCU): Joey Porter is a short-term solution for pass rush in AZ, but Jerry Hughes can bring a long term solution. Although he may not be able to step in and start in his first year, Jerry Hughes shows a lot of upside.
- Dallas- Golden Tate (ND): Golden Tate is perfect for Dallas simply because of his celebrity name. In addition to Miles Austin, Tony Romo could have a pretty scary tandem at receiver in 2010.
- San Diego- Jahvid Best (Cal): With the release of L.T., San Diego needs to look for a more permanent solution at halfback. Darren Sproles is not an every down back. Jahvid Best is a bit of a risk with the neck injury he sustained his senior year, but he was a Heisman hopeful to start the season.
- N.Y. Jets- Jared Odrick (Penn St.): Odrick is a very versitile player coming from an asteemed program at Penn St.. The Jets, fresh off of signing Jason Taylor would love to see TAylor Mays fall to them but Odrick will be the resonable pick...
- Minnesota- Brian Price (UCLA): Pat Williams had one of the best years of his career, but at the age of 37 one must question how many years he has left in the tank. Brett Favre seems to be a fountain of youth for the older players on the Vikings. Brian Price will be a great succession for Pat Williams in the near future.
- Indianapolis- Maurkice Pouncey (Fla): Maurkice Pouncey can play both center and guard which will come as a big upgrade to Indy, whose only glaring weakness is their o-line.
- New Orleans- Sean Witherspoon (Mizzou): Just like the Colts, the Saints don’t really have too much to upgrade. Sean Witherspoon brings depth to a rather weak line backing core. Greg Williams will enjoy a new option for blitzing.
