UFC May Need 1 More Division

For the longest time I have been against adding new/different weight classes to the UFC. For the simple reasons that it creates too many classes to maintain and it starts to get too much like boxing and waters down divisions.

Recently though I am seeing the need to either alter the weight limits or add 1 more division. The weight jumps as of now are pretty simple in the UFC basically a 15-20lb difference. 155, 170, 185, 205. then you hit heavyweight and you see a 60 pound jump. I understand that HW is for the "big boys" but it leaves alot of fighters in limbo. There are too many fighters that are sitting around 230-250 pounds that are giving up alot of weight to the likes of carwin, lesnar and a couple others, but at the same time its way to much weight to try and cut for 205.

It leaves you with 2 options, lose weight or bulk up. Sounds like an easy soultion but with that comes a decision lose strength or lose speed and possibly stamina. I can think of alot couple fighters who are in this situation. Guys like Randy Couture and Brandon Vera. They were forced to move down because the were on the smaller end of the class. Vera has had limited success at LHW while he was very good at HW until he faced a much bigger Tim Sylvia, same goes for Randy when it was time to face Brock. Then you look at guys like Frank Mir who try bulking up to stay in the division and all that gets him is beat up by the big boys which i attest to him looking alot slower then his usual self.

So how is the problem solved? Do you cut the HW division in half and make a new class at 225 or 230? That would be the easiest solution. or do you overhaul the entire thing starting at LW?

In my opinion the best way would be to add a new division somewhere from 220-235 and change LHW to 200 instead of 205. This would cause the least amount of shakeups to other divisions and still maintain a strong HW and "new division" whatever the name would be. The HW division is stacked and now would be the best time to make the new class. There are far too many fighters at HW that are great but realistically have a small chance at being champion.
