Why Is Aaron Brooks Not On a NFL Roster?

Aaron Brooks was once one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, he had good mobility and arm strength, and the ability to put the ball anywhere he wanted. He had the talent to be one of the best, but injuries and bad luck derailed his career.

Brook's career took of with the Saints in 2000 after spending a year on the Green bay Packers Practice squad. Brooks took over a beaten down franchise who was coming off of a 3-13 record, and turned them into a 10-6 team however it should be noted he came in for a injured Jeff Blake late in the season. However Aaron did beat the St. Louis rams in the playoffs who were coming off of a Super bowl win.

Brooks would have a decent career with the Saints but due to a lack of defense he was never able to return the Saints back to the playoffs.

Brooks would go 38-44 with the Saints in 6 years, his last year being his worst going 3-10 in 2005. Brooks would then go to Oakland and destroy his career, as he would go winless in eight starts and leave after 2006 and never sign with a team again.

I must ask why a talented Quarterback who has thrown for over 3,500 yards in four years in a row, and over 20 touchdowns in all of those years, not be able to land a job? Even as a second string, teams such as the Rams, Seahawks, Saints, Bills, Broncos, or the Vikings could use him.

Brooks has been out of football for three years so it is unlikely he will ever play again but it's a shame, and a talent gone to waste. The story for why he is not on a roster is because he has never been a “locker room” leader, and is inconsistent at times. Another Quarterback who fits that profile is Rex Grossman, but even Grossman was able to find a team.

Who knows how many other Quarterbacks are out there, and wasting there talent, the NFL is a Quarterback driven league and with so many teams not having a good Quarterback or backup it’s beyond me why he has not found a team
