Auburn Recruiting: Recruiting News Soaring

Kevin McGradyJan 22, 2010

News is soaring on the recruiting front. Coach Curtis Luper predicted a "big" guy or two will be coming our way in the next week in an interview today. He commented that their focus was on the defensive line.Ā

There are two main prospects that fit thisĀ description, and they are the same two that were projected in this previous article.Ā

Both Jeffrey Whitaker and Byran Jones are major defensive tackle prospects. I expect one or both of them to be on the roster at Auburn next year.Ā

Marcus Lattimore will announce his choice at his church on February 2. He has planned this for some time now. Everyone in South Carolina as well as the major gurus predict him to go to South Carolina.

I have a hunch that Lattimore is a logical young man and his logical choice would be Auburn University, of the two universities he is still considering. Here is the path to my thoughts.

Lache Seastrunk is set to announce his commitment on or around Jan. 27. He has narrowed his choices to Auburn and Oregon at this point. No one, including myself, has a real idea of what Seastrunk will do.

Markeith Ambles has shown some interest in Auburn and might make a visit before Feb. 3. He is a five-star receiver.

Running back DJ Howard is taking an official visit to Clemson this weekend. This would make himĀ shaky for Auburn. It would seem he might go for Clemson if Lattimore commits to Auburn.Ā

Offensive lineman Shon Coleman is paying a visit to Arkansas this weekend and Ole Miss next weekend. He is committed to Auburn but wants to explore all of his options and make sure.

I see both Howard and Coleman as soft commits. Neither one is sure of their decision at this point. Either or both could be Feb. 3rd surprises.

If any one wants to see a great explanation of the point system with recruiting services and where Auburn stands, here is the best article I have found on this topic:

I think the Auburn staff would like to finish with Jeffrey Whitaker, Byran Jones, Marcus Lattimore, and Corey Lemonier.Ā

If one or more of the current class should decommit and choose another path, these are some names that might fill their slot: WR Markeith Ambles and LB Victor Beasley. They would also be considered if one of the targeted recruits does not come through.

While there have been rampantĀ rumors of recruits not meeting requirements for enrollment, this is simply not the case with this class. There will be little problem with this as opposed to years past.

If the Auburn staff picks up some defensive linemen they are after, this will be by far the highest rated and most complete recruiting class in the history of Auburn University.

There are five early signers that are already enrolled and will be able to participate in spring practice. The remainder project to enroll in the spring in time for fall practice.

This recruiting class has targeted and filled every hole in the Auburn roster. It has begun to upgrade the talent level across the board. It also addressed many of the holes that will be in the roster after graduation next year.

2010 holds more potential than any year since 2004 for the Auburn football team. Much of that potential is due to the effort put into this recruiting class.

I suggest everyone attend the A-Day scrimmage on April 17 to show ourĀ appreciation of the huge effort put forth by the Auburn staff in recruiting this year. Ā
