Narrowed Down Broncos Mock Draft
In my last article, I wrote a different kind of mock draft. I analyzed each round and picked about 4-5 players per round that the Broncos should consider drafting. Since then, a few things have caught my attention. In this updated mock draft, I am going to assume a number of things. I am going to assume that Denver has gotten rid of Brandon Marshall. Let's venture a guess and say that he goes to the Houston Texans. The Texans would then have Andre Johnson on one side, Brandon Marshall on the other, and Kevin Walter could become a slot receiver...Yikes. Scary Thought. Anyway, Broncos would get the Texans # 19 pick and a 3rd rounder. I am also going to assume that the Broncos have gotten rid of Tony Scheffler. Lets say he follows Shanny to Washington. He was utilized very nicely in Shanny's offense so there he goes. The Broncos would get a 4th rounder for him following his lackluster year and our desire to let him go. So here we go. We have pick 11, pick 19, a 2nd rounder, 2 3rd rounders, 2 4th rounders, a 6th and a 7th rounder. Let the fun begin.
1st round # 10

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Dez Bryant. WR from Oklahoma St.
This is the guy we need to pick up if we let Brandon Marshall go. It makes too much sense. He has decent size at 6 ft 2. He has great athleticism and superb hands. He is the best WR in this draft. With this pick, we lessen the blow of losing Marshall.
1st round pick # 19
Dan Williams. DT from Tennessee.
This is one of the hardest picks to predict. We could go a number of ways with this pick. We could pick up Mike Iupati the OT from Iowa. We could pick up Sean Lee the LB from Penn State. However, I think that we are going to pick Dan Williams, the Nose Tackle from Tennessee. This guy is the missing piece to our defense. He is going to be the run stopping D-lineman that we need. In a 3-4 scheme, you really need a strong nose tackle and we don't have that. Throw Dan Williams into our defense and it gets a much needed upgrade. However, I would gladly see Denver pick up one of the OT's from Iowa with this pick.
2nd Round
Tony Pike. QB Cincinnati.
My stance on who the Broncos would draft has changed a bit since my last mock. I previously stated that if we were going to draft a qb that we are going to draft a big name guy such as Bradford, Tebow, or McCoy. Now, I am going to have to make an exception. Tony Pike is 6 ft 6, threw for 2,520 yards and had 29 touchdowns in 2009 for the near perfect Cincinnati Bearcats. He threw just 6 Interceptions in 2009. This shows that he is accurate and smart with his throws. These are two things that are necessary in the Broncos offensive scheme. If McD picks this guy, he will be molded into a superstar.
3rd Round. Pick From Houston
Mike Johnson. OG from Alabama.
If we wait this long to draft on o-lineman then we should draft this guy. Mike Johnson stands at 6 ft 6 and nearly 300 pounds. With Denver likely to move towards a power blocking scheme, this guy could come in and contribute in a big way.
3rd Round.
Tony Moeaki. TE from Iowa
This is our heir to Tony Scheffler. We bring in a different Tony who is a big body with nice hands. He stands at 6 ft 3 and could be a very nice red zone threat. He could also be a good threat over the middle. He is climbing up draft boards so grabbing him around here would be a good pickup.
4th Round. Pick From Washington
Brian Jackson. CB from Oklahoma.
Champ Bailey and Renaldo Hill aren't getting any younger. There is hope for Alphonso Smith, but so far he has showed nothing. This is a guy the Broncos should consider drafting. Jackson is 6 ft 1 and is a very hard hitter. He is also a very nice special teams player. With Bailey and Hill still there, they could mentor Jackson until they retire and he becomes our next stud CB.
4th Round.
Danario Alexander. WR from Missouri.
If we pair Dez Bryant with this guy, then it is over. Danario Alexander is 6 ft 5 and is better then a 4th round pick. He has been injured in the past and that is the only thing that will shy teams away from him. If he falls this far, the Broncos would be crazy not to pick him. If selected, we would have one of the best up and coming receiving corps with Dez Bryant, Danario Alexander, Eddie Royal, and veterans Jabar Gaffney and Brandon Stokley.
6th Round.
Zoltan Mesko. P from Michigan.
We need a new punter. Plain and Simple. This guy is the best punter in the draft. Assuming he lasts this long, Denver would be picking up a guy who could start giving us an advantage as it relates to field position.
7th Round.
LaGerrette Blount. RB from Oregon.
This would be an absolute steal. This guy was projected as a 1st rounder before the 2009 season began. His infamous punch at the Boise State game has made him drop this far. If he is here, we need to grab him. This guy has a ton of skill and would be a very nice addition to the Running Back core that includes Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter.
There we go. This would be a very solid draft. We would have to add a few more things through Free Agency, but McD has already shown us that he can do that. Like always, your thoughts are always welcome.
