As the Oakland Raiders season ends, let the speculation begin.

Questions of who will be the head coach, what players will be retained, who will they pick up in the draft are all the topic of fans' conversations. Comically, only the question of "Who will be the head coach" seems to be a yearly Raiders exclusive.

But that is not my focus for this article. The focus of my article is to point out some possibilities for the Raiders at this point in time.

Still lingering with the Raider faithful is the hope that some positive, logical moves will be made by owner Al Davis. But let us talk about the tragedies that quite possibly could happen to this Raider team.

As you may recall,  back in the Kiffin era, Mr. Davis and Kiffin disagreed on one specific draft pick- JaMarcus Russell. Well, guess who won that power struggle? Mr. Davis of course, and I believe that Davis noted Russell would be a star in this league.

So with that being said, what do you think of the following scenario?

Al Davis could be currently building a case against Tom Cable ,  right now. By using the oh so familiar reason of "just cause , " Mr. Davis (once again) fires a head coach. Did I mention that it would probably be without pay or fulfilling the contract between Davis and Cable? Do the names Shanahan and Kiffin ring a bell? Of course they do.

Back to the scenario.

As history shows, Al Davis sticks with the players he picks, even if they don't carry the team to victory. Davis could very well go public, announce he is firing Tom Cable with "just cause" for not using Russell, and announce Russell to be the future of the Raiders (again).

After firing Cable, Davis would be looking for a new head coach. Hmmmm, let's think about that a minute, a new head coach. The search for a coach who would be taking a job that the last two coaches got fired and Davis didn't fulfill their pay contract. Who in their right mind would take that fruitless, dead end, no way to win , be a puppet job? No quality coach with the credentials this team needs would take it. Davis would be stuck hiring a coach from some high school and would back his pick with some spiel about how he sees the talent and the future of the Raiders in this coaches hands. Ahhhhh poppycock!!

Davis would be hiring whoever would take the job. The Raiders were fortunate that Cable was there to take the job last time.

So let me go over this scenario once more.

Al Davis fires Tom Cable with no head coach to take his place and the team goes leader less for most or all of the off-season. Davis also announces that JaMarcus Russell IS the future of the Raiders and will be the starter for next season.

All hope, ticket sales and 2010 are lost.

Pardon me...I need to shave, shower and vomit!
