The Mad Snyders Super Secret Plan

Fahim CarimJan 1, 2010

Snyder has once again hatched an over the top plan. He had some kind of plan two years ago. He hired the offensive coordinator first Planning on luring in a big name coach. The plan fell apart and he had to hire said offensive coordinator. Things seemed to go well until they found out he wasn't an offensive coordinator he was just a QB who had taken too many hits to the head but got lucky.

This year instead of firing Zorn after it was clear they made a mistake, Snyder went into some convoluted plan to force him to retire, save the team money and make the switch. Well that didn't work either. They didn't hire an interim coach worried that he might win some games and they'd be forced to hire him permanently.

This year they are making another big name hire. That hasn't worked in the past why would it work now? Everybody is going to get excited until we slide back into mediocrity.

My problem with Shanahan is if he does bad we can't fire him because he has the reputation as the great Superbowl coach. He might not be as good as everybody thinks he is. Lets face it he beat Green Bay because Holmgren messed up on the third down call and he beat a really weak Atlanta team. Remember he was repeatedly bounced from the playoffs after losing Elway and Davis. He famously chose Jay Cutler "Mr. interception" over "Snake" Plummer and went 8-8 over and over again. Why do we want him exactly?

What I want is to hire a coach who is still hungry, doesn't think he knows it all and will work with his players. I want somebody who can build a dynasty, will build a good staff hire a good defensive coordinator, keep the good players and lose the bad ones. We need someone won't feel the pressure of winning next year but also know he can't screw-up either. We need a soldier not a miracle worker, a leader not a pornographic cheerleader to excite the fans.

Who had heard of Tomlin when he took over in Pittsburgh? Who had heard of Sean Payton when he took over in New Orleans.

The Redskins have a few good guys on their staff who deserve a shot. Gray, Sherm "the bingo man", Joe Bugel these guys are as good as anybody. Why does it have to be a name brand? I love Cowher and Jimmy Johnson and Brian Billick, whose name hasn't come up for some reason, but we have good guys. One of the Redskins biggest, if not their biggest, shortcomings is not recognizing their own talent but overpaying for someone else's, but you can't teach a "short" dog new tricks. (swipe at Dan intended)

I realize why this guy has been able to milk the Washington fans for more money than any other owner in sports while consistently giving them a substandard product. He doesn't do what he has to to win, he does what he has to do to get the fans to open their wallets. He gives them what they want a huge off-season buzz, high hopes press conferences and big names. He let's go of good players who are slumping knowing the fans will be on their feet to cheer for someone new. Remember the idiots who cheered when Todd Collins came in when they benched Campbell. He threw one long pass got a field goal +3 and got safetied -2 net 1 But we eat it up.

The problem is not Dan Snyder. It's us, the brain damaged sausage eating football fans. He gives us what we want, a happy meal, instead of a good home cooked dinner.
