Odell Beckham Jr. Trade Rumors: Rams' No. 23 2018 NFL Draft Pick 'Is Available'

Timothy RappMar 27, 2018

As rumors continue to swirl around Odell Beckham's future with the New York Giants, the Los Angeles Rams are lurking as a potential trade partner, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Steve Wyche:

It would be the latest blockbuster move for a Rams team that has brought aboard a number of high-profile players this offseason, including cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib and defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

Of course, whether Beckham is actually on the block remains unclear. There certainly has been no shortage of reports on the matter.

There are reports that the Giants won't deal Beckham:

There are reports that Beckham won't play without a long-term extension, the Giants are open to a deal and something actually could go down:

As for the Rams, Beckham reportedly "has told two Rams players he wants in," per Gary Myers of the New York Daily News, and the Rams seem interested in adding the dynamic wideout:

Myers also reported that the Rams are interested in adding Beckham, though he added that the Giants aren't ready to part ways just yet:

"Pat Shurmur desperately wants an opportunity to coach Beckham and give him some tough love to help him grow up. He’s infatuated with his talent. John Mara has backed off being in a rush to sign a check for $50 million guaranteed and it doesn’t take much to see he’s grown weary of Beckham’s childish act. The Giants don’t want to trade Beckham but if they feel he is poisoning the locker room with his selfish behavior, they could be ready to move on."

So what is likely going on here?

Well, Beckham wants a lucrative contract extension, one the Giants perhaps aren't ready to offer up. So given that Beckham has threatened to sit if he doesn't get said extension, the Giants are at least willing to listen to offers to see if anybody offers them the proverbial kitchen sink for the superstar talent.

The Rams have been aggressive this offseason, so it isn't shocking they are being linked to Beckham. Certainly, bringing aboard a talent of Beckham's nature would give Jared Goff an amazing weapon to add to an arsenal that already includes Todd Gurley, Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp.

But if the Giants feel they can come to terms with Beckham and smooth out the relationship, it's hard to imagine why they would deal a 25-year-old star who is already a top-five player at a key position, especially with Eli Manning's career coming to a close.

And even if the Giants were deciding to completely rebuild around a rookie quarterback this season, keeping Beckham would still make sense for the Giants. Keeping that type of weapon to ease the transition for a rookie signal-caller would be logical.

Any way you slice it, keeping Beckham makes more sense for New York than trading him. But as the old cliche goes, where there's smoke there's fire, and there's enough smoke to suggest the Giants are at least taking some calls.
