Floyd Mayweather Net Worth, Projected McGregor Purse Earnings, Fight Predictions

Mike ChiariAug 26, 2017

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has long been one of the richest athletes in all of sports, and that status will be further solidified Saturday when he steps into the ring to face Conor McGregor.

Although Mayweather hasn't fought since defeating Andre Berto to improve to 49-0 in 2015, his net worth remains staggering.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Mayweather has $400 million to his name with $250 million of that coming courtesy of his win against Manny Pacquiao in 2015, which stands as the highest-grossing bout in boxing history.

Celebrity Net Worth noted that Mayweather versus McGregor could top that with $700 million in total revenue, which would likely allow "Money" to pocket somewhere in the neighborhood of $280 million.

With total career earnings of $730 million, that payday would put Mayweather over the $1 billion mark as a professional.

Definitive financial details regarding Saturday's fight aren't being released, but UFC President Dana White suggested Mayweather could make somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 million, and McGregor could take home roughly $75 million, per Keith Idec of BoxingScene.com.

Depending upon the total revenue split agreement, however, those numbers could end up being significantly higher, as Celebrity Net Worth alluded to.

ESPN's Darren Rovell tweeted the following projection for how much both Mayweather and McGregor will make off the fight:

Mayweather is even more bullish, as he said during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live that he will make $350 million:

The Richest listed Mayweather's total net worth as $340 million as of January 2017, and it reported that he made $300 million in 2015 alone due primarily to the Pacquiao fight.

Forbes also tabbed Mayweather with a net worth of $340 million, having last updated that mark in December 2016.

To add some perspective, Mayweather was 34th on Forbes' "America's Richest Entrepreneurs Under 40" list, 54th on its "Celebrity 100" and 16th on its list of the world's highest-paid athletes in 2016.

Spending all of 2016 in retirement didn't do much to hinder Mayweather's standing, but he is in line to be much higher on those lists at the conclusion of 2017 due to Saturday's superfight.

Although the odds gap has shrunk because of the amount of money being bet on McGregor to win in Las Vegas, Mayweather remains a fairly substantial favorite.

That is with good reason since he is arguably among the greatest boxers of all time, while McGregor has never competed in a professional boxing match.

The Irishman is 21-3 in MMA with 18 of his wins coming by way of knockout, which suggests he has some impressive punching power.

McGregor will likely need to overwhelm Mayweather with that power and knock him out in order to pull off the upset, but due to Mayweather's experience and savvy, it is difficult to envision that happening.

Prediction: Mayweather wins by fifth-round knockout.
