Dave Roberts Says Yasiel Puig Overreacted to Inside Pitch from Jose Urena

Tempers flared in South Florida on Saturday night when Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Urena threw a fastball inside against Yasiel Puig in the second inning that riled up the Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder.

After the pitch cut hard across the batter's box, Puig took a couple steps toward the mound and had words for Urena before the situation was diffused.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Puig "overreacted" to the pitch, according to the Los Angeles Times' Andy McCullough.

"That's a two-seam," Urena said, per the Sun Sentinel's Matthew DeFranks. "I threw the same pitch by [Chris] Taylor. He get like a little baby with that."

Puig may have seen Urena's pitch as retaliation for his big game Friday, when he smashed a pair of home runs—including a game-winning 412-foot blast in the top of the ninth inning.

However, Puig proved quieter at the plate in Saturday's 7-1 win. All told, he went 0-for-2 with two walks and a strikeout.

Cody Bellinger gave L.A. plenty to celebrate, though, as he became the fifth player this season and first Dodgers rookie to hit for the cycle.

The Dodgers will wrap their three-game set against the Marlins on Sunday afternoon when Rich Hill takes the mound.
