Eric Decker Agrees to 1-Year Contract with Titans After 3 Seasons with Jets

The Tennessee Titans and wide receiver Eric Decker agreed to terms on a one-year contract Sunday, the team announced.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported it's a one-year deal. On Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of USA Today reported the deal is worth up to $5.35 million with a $2.5 million signing bonus.

The move comes six days after the New York Jets released Decker to save $7.25 million against the salary cap amid a roster shakeup that has been underway since February.

In other words, the Jets' decision to let Decker hit the open market wasn't borne out of disappointment in his performance.

Even though Decker was limited to three games (nine catches, 194 yards, two touchdowns) in 2016 due to hip and shoulder injuries, he's been a touchdown machine when healthy over the past five years.

Dating back to his time with the Denver Broncos, the 30-year-old has recorded at least 80 receptions and 11 touchdowns in three separate seasons (2012, 2013 and 2015). According to Pro Football Reference, the only players to produce as many since 2012 are Dez Bryant and Brandon Marshall.

Decker is also one of nine players—along with Bryant, Marshall, Antonio Brown, Demaryius Thomas, Jimmy Graham, A.J. Green, Jordy Nelson and Rob Gronkowski—who have recorded at least 40 receiving touchdowns since 2012.

The Titans will now hope Decker can return to his voluminous scoring ways.

While scoring double-digit touchdowns may not be particularly easy, there is room for Decker to flourish considering the state of the Titans receiving corps even after they added Corey Davis with the fifth pick in April's draft.

Prior to Decker's arrival, Davis, Rishard Matthews, Tajae Sharpe and Harry Douglas represented the top four receivers on Tennessee's depth chart.

With polished route-running skills, reliable hands and a knack for coming up with big catches in the red zone, Decker should quickly establish himself as one of Marcus Mariota's most reliable targets as the Titans eye their first postseason berth since 2008.
