Ranking Real Madrid Players by Their Instagram Accounts

Karl MatchettJun 6, 2017

Football news is everywhere these days. Within seconds of a goal being scored, you can find it online. When news breaks, it's pushed to your mobile device. And all big player stories are quickly circulated throughout publications.

It's almost as if we don't need the players themselves...other than for the actual games. But social media has changed all that.

Now, individual players are free to give insights into their training routines, their home lives and their sporting successes as they please, with Twitter and Facebook being platforms for them to speak their minds in particularly immediate ways. Instagram, though, is a different matter.

Visually compelling, artistic and opportunistic photos of players and their surroundings give fans new insight, and the results can be fascinating.

Here we've looked at every Real Madrid player with an account and ranked the top 15, merely according to how interesting and varied their accounts are. In other words, we're looking for more than just celebration pictures and sponsorship placements.

15. Kiko Casilla

The backup goalkeeper doesn't have a huge following compared to some of his team-mates, but a goalkeeper's action shot simply looks a little more spectacular than an outfielder's might.

In truth, Casilla would be in our top 15 on the strength of one image alone: a collection of his player stickers from every season!

The Spanish stopper has a lot of work to do to break into the Real first XI, but his Insta game is pretty reasonable.

Defensive midfielder Casemiro has won plenty of admirers since breaking into Real's first XI—and with good reason.

The Brazilian is a lynchpin of Zinedine Zidane's side, protecting the defence and helping start attacks from deep.

On Instagram, it's a pretty straight-forward training-and-celebrations affair from the No. 14, but a few custom images and a splash of international team colour make him a worthy follow.

He's one of the critical pieces of Zidane's side and a fantastic performer in the UEFA Champions League final.

On Insta, Modric brings plenty of home life and friends to the mix, along with plenty of in-game action shots.

The Croatian is one of the most undroppable parts of Los Blancos' team, and he remains one of the finest midfielders in Europe—and one of Madrid's best ever signings.

Having nearly left Madrid a year ago, Nacho enjoyed the season of his life with Real, filling in at centre-back and left-back with regularity and playing superbly throughout 2016/17.

The Spanish defender puts plenty of family time and charity work into his Insta account, but naturally, after such a great season, there are lots of on-pitch memories to admire, too.

One of the brightest young talents in Spain, Asensio served further notice of his rise with a late goal in the final against Juventus.

It has been an incredible campaign for him, as he came back from a loan spell to establish himself as a critical part of Madrid's future.

His account boasts lots of game imagery, which makes it interesting to start with, but it's also intriguing to watch one of the younger members of the team handle social media.

We're into the top 10, and Welsh winger Bale is up next, having just about made his recovery in time to feature in the Champions League final.

He was out injured for several weeks beforehand—and his Insta account highlights some of his recovery work in that period.

Elsewhere, it's celebrations, cool artwork and plenty of training images from Real's record signing.

Keylor Navas finished the season in good form, helping Real Madrid to the double, and he has enjoyed a fantastic rise in La Liga and on the world stage since joining Levante.

The No. 1 choice goalkeeper—for now, at least—mixes lots of personal shots with match imagery.

As with Casilla's account, the Costa Rican throws in a few spectacular-looking saves to remind fans of his talents.

Striker Morata hasn't been able to force his way into the XI regularly since Karim Benzema returned to fitness, but he still finished the season with an incredible strike-rate in front of goal.

The Spanish international posts plenty of action pictures and a few sporting heroes along with personal and family life images, too.

In truth, now that we've hit the top seven, it's from here on out that the accounts are more worthwhile.

Colombian star James doesn't make much of a regular impact on the team—not even in the Champions League final squad—but his Insta game is stellar.

He shares pictures from exotic international trips, photos of happy home life and images with his team-mates. He has more than 30 million followers, too.

6. Isco

This is Isco. Isco enjoys posting pictures with trophies, his children and his dog.

First-choice striker Benzema isn't shy when it comes to throwing in a few poses, be they sponsored ones or...relaxed, let's say, at home or out and about.

His Insta offers a much more revealing look at his day-to-day life away from the training ground, but the celebration photos aren't overlooked either.

Benzema's account is an interesting follow—put it that way.

Kovacic has a photo with a camel! That was almost good enough for a podium placing by itself, but not quite.

The Croatian midfielder has plenty of interesting home-life photos to peruse as well as a fair few with his team-mates in non-training situations.

It's a revealing insight into how the players bond—both at Real and "rival" players elsewhere—and Kovacic would have a lot more followers if he posted more regularly.

A relative rarity: a list that Cristiano doesn't top!

The Portuguese forward is predictably busy on his Insta account and is the most-followed footballer on the social network. Also predictably, there are some pretty spectacular images to enjoy.

It's perhaps a little sponsor-heavy for top spot, and a whole lot of serious more often than not, but there's a great mix of football and non-match-oriented content.

Real Madrid's captain just edges out Ronaldo into second. Ramos is a prolific poster on Insta.

Let's face it: He's a bit of a poser at times. But this makes his account a pretty good follow for those who enjoy that kind of thing. And there's a lot of family content and home life among the wistfully-staring-into-the-distance shots, which tend to appear frequently.

Ramos keeps a good mix of pics inside and outside football.

At the top of Real Madrid's squad, Marcelo's account is an incredibly varied follow: football life combined with random life occurrences, photos of family and friends, plus some spectacular self-taken videos of fans.

The left-back has been excellent this season, and he's truly one of Madrid's most important players. But there are pleasing themes around a lot of his content: He's humble, simply enjoying life and happy being around others.

He's just won La Liga and the UEFA Champions League, and he takes our vote for the trophy here too: Real Madrid's most interesting player account on Instagram!
