Khalil Mack's Contract Option Picked Up by Raiders

In a move that was basically a foregone conclusion, the Oakland Raiders have exercised the fifth-year option on Khalil Mack's rookie contract, the team announced on Thursday. 

Peter Schrager of Fox Sports first reported the Raiders picked up Mack's option for 2018.

As the fifth overall pick in the 2014 draft, Mack had one more guaranteed year left on his deal before the Raiders picked up the option for 2018. 

Per Jimmy Durkin of the Bay Area News Group, the value of Mack's 2018 option year is estimated to be around $13.2 million. The move also provides the Raiders additional time to negotiate a long-term deal with Mack. 

Mack emerged as a superstar in 2015 when he recorded 15 sacks. The 26-year-old continued his evolution last season, recording 11 sacks en route to being named NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
