Janoris Jenkins Injury: Giants CB Active vs. Redskins
New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins will return to the lineup for the season finale against the Washington Redskins after being out after injuring his back against the Detroit Lions in Week 15.
He appeared to get hit by teammate Trevin Wade, according to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY. He was down for an extended period before being helped off the field, and he missed the Week 16 clash with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Giants announced his return prior to kickoff in Week 17.
After the game against the Lions, Pro Football Talk reported Jenkins was "undergoing a battery of tests to rule out any possible damage to organs." Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the results of those tests were positive and "he should be OK."
The 28-year-old is the team's top cornerback. Before the injury, he had registered 48 tackles, three interceptions, a sack and a forced fumble.
And his teammates have raved about his play on the field.
"You know you have one side of the field shut down," safety Landon Collins said, per Dan Duggan of NJ.com. "You don't have to worry about it. If it's man-to-man coverage, deep balls, anything like that, it's possible it could be a turnover. It's a breath of fresh air. It's a blessing, and we're all thankful for that."
Cornerback Coty Sensabaugh said: "I don't want to say he knows what's coming, but his instincts—I don't know if it comes from film study or him just knowing football. But that really surprised me when I got here, how smart he is."
Jenkins signed with the Giants this past offseason on a five-year, $62.5 million deal. Thus far, he's lived up to the hype.
