Alfred Dunhill Championship 2016: Saturday Leaderboard Scores and Highlights

Gianni VerschuerenDec 3, 2016

Local favourite Brandon Stone will take a three-shot lead into the final round of the 2016 Alfred Dunhill Championship after yet another solid showing on Saturday.

Stone finished the day with a score of six-under, the second-best of the day behind David Drysdale's eight-under. Drysdale's superb outing resulted in a spot in the top 10 heading into the final day, but he'll have a mountain to climb to overtake Stone.

MALELANE, SOUTH AFRICA - DECEMBER 03: Brandon Stone and Charl Schwartzel of South Africa putt out on the 18th green during the third round of the Alfred Dunhill Championships at Leopard Creek Country Golf Club on December 3, 2016 in Malelane, South Afric

Rising star Stone has been in fantastic form throughout the Alfred Dunhill Championship, and he kept up his excellent play on Saturday, further increasing his lead on Keith Horne, Chris Hanson and Charl Schwartzel.

As shared by the European Tour's official Twitter account, consistency has been the key:

The 23-year-old dropped only one shot all day long, bogeying the 12th, and for the first time in three days, he didn't pick up an eagle. But his putter was clicking, especially early on, and four birdies on the front nine was exactly what he needed.

Here's a look at one of his best finishes:

Stone's lone bogey on the back nine was sandwiched in between more birdies, and a solid run of par resulted in a score of six-under.

Per the official Twitter account of Alfred Dunhill Links, the youngster felt good about his game heading into the final round:

Stone took his first win on the European Tour earlier this year at the BMW South African Open and always reserves his best golf for tournaments on home soil. If he can keep his putter under control for one more day, there's no reason to doubt his title chances.

Second-placed Horne was able to keep up with the pace on Saturday thanks to a sensational run of four straight birdies on the back nine, after finishing the front nine one-under. Horne has driven the ball well, but his putting hasn't been consistently clean, and he can't afford any more mistakes.

Schwartzel suffered a similar fate on Saturday. The 32-year-old would be pushing Stone for the lead if it wasn't for a double bogey on Friday, and a handful of key mistakes on Saturday negated some of his excellent play, as he finished four-under.

Schwartzel made some fantastic shots, including this beauty:

He also bounced a shot off the rocks on the 16th that brought an end to one of his best runs of the tournament, where he bagged five birdies through six holes.

Drysdale's superb eight-under round brought his total score to 11-under, but the Scot is unlikely to battle his way into title contention on Sunday. Drysdale missed several routine putts during the first two days of competition, and at this point, the deficit is simply too great to overcome.
