Antonio Brown Fined for Touchdown Dance vs. Chiefs: Latest Comments, Reaction

Scott PolacekOct 6, 2016

The Kansas City Chiefs couldn’t stop Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown from reaching the end zone twice and celebrating during his team’s 43-14 victory in Week 4, but the NFL punished him for it.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Brown was fined $24,309.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com, Brown said he was fined for his touchdown-celebration dance Thursday. Fowler noted the league “has a rule against ‘sexually suggestive’ behavior on the field."

Brown has been fined several times this season.

Fowler noted the NFL fined him $9,115 for “twerking” in the end zone in Week 1, and a second offense for taunting would be $12,154. Brown was also fined after Pittsburgh’s 38-16 win over Washington in Week 1 for wearing baby-blue cleats.

Pittsburgh offensive guard Ramon Foster addressed the issue, per Fowler: “That’s what happens when you give someone [Commissioner Roger Goodell] total power. There are other guys who have done worse. AB’s just having fun. Don’t make it the ‘No Fun League.’”

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin asked the league to provide “clarity on what’s acceptable” when it comes to the celebrations, per Fowler. The NFL will reportedly send a video providing further explanation.

Brown will need clarification going forward because he is likely to celebrate several more touchdowns this season.

The four-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro has scored 27 touchdowns since the beginning of the 2014 campaign, and he figures to receive more space in the open field now that running back Le’Veon Bell has returned from his suspension and is attracting additional defensive attention.

Next up for the Steelers are showdowns with the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins, who rank 26th and 22nd in the league in pass defense, respectively. Those secondaries will likely have trouble keeping up with one of the most talented wide receivers in the league, so Pittsburgh fans should be on the lookout for more celebrations in the near future.
