Frank Gore Passes Marshall Faulk for 10th-Most Rushing Yards in NFL History

Rob GoldbergOct 2, 2016

Indianapolis Colts running back Frank Gore catapulted himself into the top 10 in rushing yards in NFL history Sunday.

With 68 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Gore passed Marcus Allen, Edgerrin James and Marshall Faulk and now ranks 10th all-time with 12,293 yards.

Gore entered the 2016 season as the active leader in rushing yards and was 15th on the all-time list. He passed Thurman Thomas and Franco Harris before leapfrogging the aforementioned trio in Week 4.

Of the nine players with more rushing yards than Gore, eight are in the Hall of Fame. LaDainian Tomlinson is the lone exception, but he has a chance to join the club in the class of 2017.

Jim Brown is Gore's next target on the list. The Cleveland Browns legend ran for 12,312 yards in his nine-year career.

"Pretty amazing," Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said of Gore last week, per Michel Marot of the Associated Press (via Yahoo Sports). "You think of Jim Brown, you think of one of the best if not the very best to play that position.

"It's a testament to Frank, his worth ethic, his passion, his durability, his reliability. You can check all the boxes next to his name. Great career."

The 33-year-old running back has been remarkably consistent throughout his 12 seasons in the NFL. He topped 1,000 yards eight times and went to five Pro Bowls in 10 years with the San Francisco 49ers. In his first season with the Indianapolis Colts last year, he finished with 967 yards.

And Gore hasn't missed a game since the 2010 season.

As the Colts' featured back, he could pass Tony Dorsett (12,739) and perhaps Eric Dickerson (13,259) on the career yardage list this season. Emmitt Smith is the all-time rushing leader with 18,355 yards.
