Jerry Jones Comments on Video of Ezekiel Elliott Allegedly in Pot Dispensary

Tim DanielsAug 26, 2016

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed disappointment on Thursday after a video emerged allegedly showing rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott visiting a recreational weed shop in Seattle.

TMZ Sports posted a video earlier in the day that showed Elliott at the Herban Legends establishment ahead of the team's preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. Sources told TMZ Sports they did not witness the Ohio State back making any purchases.

Todd Archer of ESPN.com passed along comments from Jones, who considered the situation a "learning process" for Elliott.

"Well, I think that in and of itself the reason we are talking about is in a way part of the learning process," Jones said. "But it's not good. It's just not good. It's just not good."

On Saturday, Jones said, "I don't think it was a good decision. He and I talked about that," noting Elliott apologized, per Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News.

Elliott spoke to reporters on Monday, telling them it was a "bad decision," adding: "I was curious, I wasn't breaking any laws. I wasn't trying to hide it."

The running back also said he didn't think he was doing anything wrong, but noted, "I know now."

"You definitely got to think of the perception of things before you actually do certain things," Elliott said. "It was a learning experience."

Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reported the Cowboys are unhappy with Elliott and also noted the running back has been partying a lot since being drafted:

Recreational marijuana is legal in the state of Washington, and TMZ Sports noted it didn't appear Elliott tried to hide his appearance at the shop. It's still an illegal substance under NFL rules, though.

However, ESPN's Ed Werder reported the NFL seemed "content" with Jones' rebuke of Elliott in terms of punishment but noted his "pattern of behavior" is a concern for the league.

"Again that's a part of just really getting the big picture here," Jones said, per ESPN. "No matter if you played at whatever level there is a picture here of interest. So again, I'm aware of it. I heard the report. I would know how he is, and he needs to look at that. And the other thing is it's just not good."

Last month, Kate Hairopoulos of the Dallas Morning News reported Elliott was accused of domestic violence by a woman saying she was a former live-in girlfriend. He denied the accusations, according to ESPN.com.

The Cowboys lost 27-17 Thursday night versus Seattle, and Elliott tallied 48 yards on seven carries. The team will wrap up the exhibition slate at home next Thursday against the Houston Texans.
