Olympic Basketball 2016: TV Schedule, Live Stream and Odds for Day 4

Andy BaileyAug 9, 2016

It's Day 4 of the basketball tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and some high-profile teams are already in a hole in the standings.

Spain, which has historically been one of Team USA's biggest challengers, dropped its opener against an up-and-coming Croatian team. And Brazil, which boasts four NBA players, fell to Lithuania.

Both will try to rebound on Tuesday, while Argentina will look to carry over the momentum of its 28-point victory over Nigeria.

Which Traditional Power Gets Back on Track?

Spain showed its age Sunday against Croatia, as Juan Carlos Navarro (36), Rudy Fernandez (31) and Sergio Rodriguez (30) combined to shoot 3-of-16 from the field. And while Pau Gasol may have had 26 points on 11-of-17 shooting, he struggled to control the paint against Croatia's slashing.

The Spaniards will have a chance to regain some of their confidence and rhythm against a Brazilian team that's also getting a little long in the tooth. Nene, Leandro Barbosa and Marcelo Huertas are all 33 and struggled to keep up with the Lithuanians on the defensive end in their first tilt.

Replacing Huertas with Raul Neto is an adjustment that would help Brazil right away. Neto came off the bench against Lithuania and scored 14 points on six shots. He was a team-best plus-16. Huertas, meanwhile, started the game and was a minus-22 with five points on five shots.

One thing that will push both teams is desperation. Being 0-2 in group play is a tough hole to escape.

Will Croatia Shine Again?

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - AUGUST 07: Dario Saric #9 of Croatia blocks Pau Gasol #4 of Spain during a Men's preliminary round basketball game between Croatia and Spain on Day 2 of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at Carioca Arena 1 on August 7, 2016 in Rio de Ja

Croatia may have scored the upset of the tournament thus far with its win over Spain on Sunday. Two of the stars of that game, Bojan Bogdanovic and Dario Saric, will need to come up big again to top Argentina.

The Brooklyn Nets' Bogdanovic dropped 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting. And Saric, who heads to the Philadelphia 76ers this season, stuffed the stat sheet with seven rebounds, five assists and five points.

His biggest box score number, though, was the game-winning block on Gasol. "I think that is the gift for the whole team," Saric said, per Michael Lee of The Vertical. "That block was like cherry on the cake."

Something Has to Give on the Women's Side

Over on the women's side, undefeated Australia and France will face off for a chance to move to 3-0. Keep an eye on Australia's Liz Cambage, who's averaging 21 points and 12.5 rebounds. If she can continue to dominate inside, Australia can take control of the group.

Japan also enters Tuesday's action undefeated, and it should be able to maintain its unblemished record. It faces Turkey, which figures to have a hard time with Japanese power forward Ramu Tokashiki, who enters averaging 19.5 points and 6.5 rebounds.

Lithuania's Bruising Bigs

Lithuania's NBA talent is concentrated in its frontcourt, where Jonas Valanciunas and Domantas Sabonis hold down the paint.

Sabonis, specifically, showed a lot in Lithuania's tournament opener against Brazil. Erik Horne of the Oklahoman broke down some of Sabonis' early offense in that game:

"

Sabonis scored 10 points in 19 minutes. Seven of those points came in the first half, as Lithuania shredded Brazil's defense shooting 75 percent before halftime. As he did in an exhibition against Spain in July, Sabonis showed off his touch and footwork around the basket, scoring first on an up-and-under move on the right block, then twisting inside for an off-balance leaning shot.

"

He should have plenty more opportunities to work inside against Nigeria, which has very little top-tier talent to slow him down around the rim.
