10 Athletes Who Have Hilarious Family Members
Danny Willett won the 2016 Masters Tournament, but the true star of the tournament was his brother.
P.J. Willett's Twitter feed was the picture of pure comedy during the final round, entertaining golf fans everywhere. Check out these other sports family members who have proven to be quite funny—there are parents, grandparents, siblings and even children.
After all, who doesn't love a little comedic relief now and then?
Rob Gronkowski
New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is the NFL's resident party boy and goofball:
But his family appears to be pretty funny, too. His dad, Gordon Gronkowski, once told Bruce Weber of Vanity Fair Rob chose to attend the University of Arizona for the pool parties. (TBH, that's probably true.)
Gronk and his brothers have also displayed their comedic chops in various commercials:
Phil Kessel
Phil Kessel just won a Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins, and, as is custom, he got to spend some time with the trophy. Notably, Kessel's grandmother sipped champagne right from the Lord Stanley's Cup—a feat both hilarious and awesome:
Derek Carr
Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has an older brother, David Carr, who also played in the NFL. David is retired from pro football, but he stole the spotlight recently during a hilarious "sibling rivalry" commercial for EECU. Listen, anytime the word "guyliner" is involved, it's generally funny stuff:
Eli Apple
Even before her son Eli was drafted by the New York Giants, Annie Apple was making jokes at his expense.
Leading up to the April draft, Annie informed Sports Illustrated readers her son would not be wearing a Rolex to the draft because he was "an unemployed college dropout."
J.R. Smith
Athlete kids have proven to be funny, too. For example, J.R. Smith's daughter praised him for not "getting kicked off the team" ahead of an NBA Finals game:
Alex Rodriguez
In another example of cute kid comedy, New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez shared a homework assignment completed by his daughter:
"Ella's Parents Day assignment! ❤️ it honey. Daddy isn't 43 yet but by then, I promise I'll know how to cut an . pic.twitter.com/mFJy2oj4pV
— Alex Rodriguez (@AROD) May 28, 2016"
A-Rod's daughter Ella roasted her dad's cooking skills (and probably unintentionally, his age). Kids say the darndest things, right?
The Mannings
Retired Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is one of the funniest athletes of all time. His hilarious commercials became legendary over the course of his NFL career. Here he is—with older brother Cooper—roasting Broncos defensive coordinator Wade Phillips:
Peyton's younger brother, New York Giants QB Eli Manning, is quite funny himself. He was delightful in this ESPYs spoof making fun of Peyton:
Christian McCaffrey
Christian McCaffrey is a standout running back at Stanford, but he's not the only football talent in the family. When Christian's older brother Max McCaffrey signed with the Oakland Raiders, the boys' father Ed—a former member of the rival Denver Broncos—shared his sadness on Twitter:
Martellus and Michael Bennett
New England Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett is a funny guy. He once told a story about his childhood karate skills on ESPN's Highly Questionable that had Bomani Jones absolutely rolling:
His brother, Michael, is no slouch either.
The Seattle Seahawks defensive end brought the house down during Super Bowl media day in 2015. Here he is on his football superstitions:
Danny Willett
Danny Willett won the Masters in April, but his brother stole the show. P.J. Willett's Twitter feed was the place to be during the final round:
And then, the celebration:
Never change, P.J. Willett.
