Hawks Reportedly Set to Keep Millsap Despite Trade Talks
Saturday, July 2
Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com reported the Hawks "are expected to halt trade talks" regarding Millsap following Al Horford's decision to sign with the Boston Celtics.
The Hawks had been shopping Millsap as they looked to bring back Horford alongside Dwight Howard, with Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reporting the Hawks were "still shopping" Millsap and "working contingencies" should Horford want to re-sign.
Wojnarowski also reported the market for Millsap was "strong" and that there had been a "flurry of calls, trade proposals."
On Friday, Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com reported the Hawks and Phoenix Suns "pondered" a deal that involved Millsap and a "collection of picks owned by [the] Suns."
Millsap Will Be Solid Piece for Hawks in Wake of Horford's Exit
If the Hawks do decide to once again explore the market for Millsap, there should be plenty of suitors. The forward has averaged 17.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per game over the past three seasons.
The three-time All-Star has a solid mid-range game and is strong near the basket and his defense is even better, as he led the league last season with 6.0 defensive win shares.
Atlanta will be hoping Millsap can step up in Horford's absence and continue to be a vital cog as the franchise looks to return to the postseason.
