College Softball World Series 2016: Auburn vs. Oklahoma Game 3 Score and Recap
Behind the arm of Paige Parker, Oklahoma clinched the 2016 Women's College World Series with a 2-1 Game 3 win over Auburn on Wednesday.
NCAA Softball showed the Sooners' celebration:
Parker allowed just one run on five hits while striking out five in a complete-game performance.
It was the complete opposite of Tuesday night's Game 2, which saw a combined 18 runs in a matchup that went eight innings and ended on a walk-off grand slam from Auburn's Emily Carosone.
Like it did on Tuesday, Oklahoma jumped out to an early lead thanks to Auburn's mistakes in the field during the bottom of the first inning. After a Caleigh Clifton single, Shay Knighten's ground ball was booted by Tuesday night's hero Carosone, which allowed Clifton to advance to third.
It didn't get better for Carosone, who threw the ball away, allowing Clifton to score and Knighten to move to second. Knighten then scored when Fale Aviu singled her home with two outs.
Auburn took a while to get to Parker, as it let a golden opportunity slip by when the bases were loaded with no outs in the top of the third. However, Parker was able to escape when she induced Carosone to strike out and Carlee Wallace to ground into a double play.
The Tigers got on the board the next inning thanks to the power of Jade Rhodes, who deposited her third home run in four games over the left field wall. It was a solo shot, though, which only halved Auburn's deficit, via ESPNU:
That was the only blemish of Parker's night, as she locked things down after Rhodes' home run by retiring the final 12 batters she faced.
Her performance helped solidify her status as the tournament's most outstanding player, which she was named after the game. This is the third College World Series title that Oklahoma has won in program history and its second since 2013.
