Doc Rivers Comments on Chris Paul, Blake Griffin Injuries
The Los Angeles Clippers lost Game 4 to the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night, 98-84, but there are more important matters for the team at the moment.
All-Star point guard Chris Paul suffered a fractured right hand in the third quarter, and ESPN's J.A. Adande suggested he will likely miss the rest of the playoffs. Superstar forward Blake Griffin also seemed to reaggravate a quad injury that limited him in the second half of the regular season, and his status going forward is uncertain.
"It doesn't look good for him," head coach Doc Rivers said in regard to his star point guard after the game, per ESPN.com's Arash Markazi.
Rivers shared similar thoughts when asked about Griffin, per Markazi: "It doesn't look great for him, either."
Paul exited the game with 6:07 remaining in the third quarter of Los Angeles' 98-84 loss, which evened the first-round series at 2-2. The Clippers trailed by six at the time of Paul's departure.
Despite reaggravating his left quad injury, Griffin stayed in the game until the 5:48 mark in the fourth quarter. The Blazers had a 12-point lead before Jeff Green replaced him.
"Chris is taking this very hard," Rivers said, per Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders. "He worked all year to get here, and he's a very emotional guy. Our whole team was in [the] training room."
In the regular season, the Clippers played 47 games without Griffin, who suffered quad and hand injuries and was suspended by the NBA for four contests, but they haven't had much time to adjust to life without both Paul and Griffin on the floor.
Portland got a needed win to even the series Monday, and if the Clippers' two stars can't go for Game 5, the Blazers will have a golden opportunity to seize control of the series and potentially advance to Round 2.
