Rawls 'Taking [Recovery] Day by Day'

Thursday, April 7

"Of course I'll be ready for camp," Rawls said in an interview with Q13 Fox News (via Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times). "I'm getting better. I'm walking on my own, I'm doing a lot of good things, and my recovery is coming very quickly, so I'm looking forward to being out there very, very soon."

Rawls was one of the league's biggest surprises last season after Seattle signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Central Michigan. Stepping in for an injured Marshawn Lynch, he rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown in a Week 3 victory over the Chicago Bears.

The 22-year-old appeared sporadically over the remainder of the regular season until Lynch underwent surgery for a sports hernia last November. Rawls carried the ball 70 times for 391 yards and three touchdowns between Weeks 11-13, and the fractured ankle cut his season short in Week 14.

Now, with Lynch retired, Rawls will be the Seahawks' primary running back when Seattle begins the 2016 season. Should he have a setback in his recovery, though, the team will have a backup plan after re-signing Christine Michael.

Michael rushed for 192 yards over the final three weeks of the regular season. The 25-year-old would be more than equipped to handle starting duties on a short-term basis in the event Rawls is unavailable.
