How Lauvao Injury Impacts Redskins
Thursday, Sept. 24
Washington's starting left guard appeared in 15 games a season ago, and he has helped spring Redskins running backs to a league-leading 171.5 yards on the ground per game through two contests this year.
But while Lauvao has helped open up holes in the running game, he hasn't aided Kirk Cousins' cause under center. According to Pro Football Focus, Lauvao posted a minus-6.8 pass-blocking grade over the first two weeks of the season. In the run game, he clocked in with a plus-1.0 mark.
Josh LeRibeus immediately replaced Lauvao at left guard. However, LeRibeus strained his hamstring, per Boyer, which could thin out Washington's depth even more.
With Lauvao on the shelf, look for 2015 fourth-round pick Arie Kouandjio to possibly get a few looks.
