C.J. Anderson Injury: Updates on Broncos Star's Possible Concussion and Return
One of quarterback Peyton Manning's top offensive weapons was battling a potential injury as Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson was examined for a possible concussion in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions.
However, Patrick Smyth of Broncos PR confirmed Anderson passed the concussion test and would return in the second half. Anderson finished with eight carries for 18 yards and hauled in one catch for nine yards in the Broncos' 24-12 win.
Anderson stepped in to become the Broncos' starter last season after Montee Ball proved ineffective, and he certainly didn't disappoint. The former University of California star racked up over 1,100 total yards and 10 touchdowns despite making just seven starts.
That was good enough to earn him a Pro Bowl nod, and it also put a great deal of pressure on his shoulders to be Denver's bell-cow back in 2015.
According to ESPN.com's Jeff Legwold, Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak had some lofty expectations for the third-year back entering the current campaign:
"It's a big stage. He knows that he has some help with Ronnie (Hillman) and Juwan (Thompson). They both had good camps, but it's time. If you're one of those players, it's time when you get that second year under your belt if you're going to become a big-time player in this league; this is usually where you start to make those steps.
"
Unfortunately for Anderson, his season hasn't gotten off to the start he hoped for. Through three weeks, he has failed to rush for over 30 yards in a game and has yet to score a touchdown.
