Warriors Joining Sweepstakes?

Dan Feldman of Pro Basketball Talk passed along comments from former NBA player Mychal Thompson, the father of Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson, made on ESPN LA Now about the possibility of the team pursuing Durant: "I also heard it on good authority from a team that plays in the Bay Area that they're going to go hard after Kevin Durant."

The report notes a combination of David Lee's contract coming off of the books and an expected jump in the salary cap potentially leaving enough space to make it happen.

NEW ORLEANS, LA - FEBRUARY 16: Stephen Curry #30 and Kevin Durant #35 of the Western Conference All-Stars sit in the locker room before the 2014 NBA All-Star Game as part of the 2014 All-Star Weekend at Smoothie King Center on February 16, 2014 in New Orl

It's hard to even imagine Durant, Thompson and Stephen Curry on the same NBA roster. The amount of offensive firepower among that trio is enough to give opposing teams nightmares, regardless of who's playing in the post.

There may be concerns over the long haul about using so much cap space on three perimeter players. Yet, as LeBron James' teams have shown in recent years, when you have a championship-caliber squad, it's easier to attract veteran talent at a reduced price to help chase titles.

Golden State went 67-15 during the regular season with its current group. Think about what it could accomplish by adding Durant with the only major sacrifice being Lee.

If the other teams hoping to land Durant needed any further incentive, that's it. They have to keep the Warriors from becoming borderline unstoppable.
