San Antonio Spurs vs. Los Angeles Clippers Game 5 Odds Preview, Betting Stats
The San Antonio Spurs will head back to Staples Center Tuesday for the pivotal Game 5 of their Western Conference playoff series with the Los Angeles Clippers all tied at 2-2.
The Clippers evened the series with an impressive 114-105 victory on Sunday in Game 4 as six-point road underdogs behind 34 points from Chris Paul, and they head into Game 5 as two-point home favorites at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The defending NBA champion Spurs looked like they might take a commanding 3-1 series lead to Los Angeles for a potential close-out opportunity after routing the Clippers 100-73 in Game 3 on Friday as five-point home chalk, their second straight win in the series.
However, Los Angeles took Game 4 thanks to Paul, who made 11 of 19 shots from the field and went a perfect 10-of-10 at the free-throw line to go along with seven assists.
The Clippers' Blake Griffin also chipped in 20 points, a game-high 19 rebounds and seven assists, while Austin Rivers and Jamal Crawford combined to score 31 points off the bench.
Despite the loss, San Antonio continued to see great all-around play from forward Kawhi Leonard, who scored a game-high 26 points to boost his postseason scoring average to nearly 25 per game.
Leonard is shooting a remarkable 60 percent from the field in the playoffs, including 56 percent from three-point range, and playing the same lights-out defense that recently earned him NBA Defensive Player of the Year honors.
The Spurs have still won six of the past 10 meetings with the Clippers both straight up and against the spread, according to the OddsShark NBA Database, even though they suffered through a three-game losing streak that includes the last two regular-season meetings and Game 1.
San Antonio's 111-107 overtime victory in Game 2 as 4.5-point road dogs helped it avoid losing consecutive playoff games for the first time since losing two in a row against the Oklahoma City Thunder in last year’s Western Conference Finals.
In fact, San Antonio has dropped two straight postseason games just three times since the 2013 NBA Finals. The total has now alternated over and under in the last nine meetings with Los Angeles, and the Clippers have only managed to put together winning streaks of two or more against the Spurs twice in the past 30 games between the teams heading into their Game 5 betting matchup on Tuesday.
