Yoenis Cespedes to Tigers: Latest Trade Details, Comments and Reaction
Yoenis Cespedes is headed to his third team in the last year.
Dealing with a surplus of talent in the outfield, the Boston Red Sox dealt the 29-year-old Cuban outfielder to the Detroit Tigers on Thursday, receiving starting pitcher Rick Porcello in return.
C.J. Nitkowski of Fox Sports first reported the news:

The Red Sox later confirmed the trade and the return for the pitcher:
The move, of course, isn't surprising from the BoSox's point of view. After finishing 13th in the American League in OPS last season, they addressed their hitting woes by signing Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez. With the latter set for a move to left field, joining an already deep outfield, the team felt comfortable moving Cespedes to improve the starting rotation.
As for the Tigers, they are now proud owners of one of the most powerful right-handed bats in the league.
Cespedes, with a career .263 average and a 3.19-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio, will never be regarded for his patience or ability to get on base. But he has hit 71 home runs in 416 career games, including 22 a season ago. He hasn't quite replicated his rookie-season success in the last two years, but he remains a feared middle-of-the-lineup hitter, boasting a career .464 slugging percentage.
Defensively, he has a rocket for an arm, resulting in an AL-high 16 outfield assists and a bunch of unbelievable highlights in 2014.
This is an interesting acquisition, as Cespedes is set to hit free agency next winter, making this a potential one-year rental for his new club. That seriously increases the pressure on the front office, as a bad season could quickly make this deal look like a disastrous one.
Nevertheless, Cespedes is an electrifying player both at the plate and in the field. Not only does he put fans in the seats, but he undoubtedly increases Detroit's chances of reaching the postseason.
Things can quickly change, but on the surface, this looks like a win-win for both sides.
