As CBS4's Vic Lombardi pointed out, the Denver Broncos have made splashes in the past four offseasons—signing free-agent quarterback Peyton Manning in 2012, bringing in de facto GM John Elway in 2011, drafting Tim Tebow in 2010 and trading Jay Cutler in 2009.  This offseason, will the team make more headlines by bringing in veteran safety Ed Reed?

The only way it would be possible for Reed to land in Denver would be if he doesn't return to Baltimore.  Three days ago, Ravens coach John Harbaugh told reporters that Baltimore wants Reed to return and Reed would like to stay.

If he becomes available, should the Broncos go after Reed?

If negotiations break down, however, and Reed does not return to the Ravens, he'll likely want to sign with another contender.  Will the Broncos come into play?

Sports Illustrated's Peter King thinks Reed has played his last game as a Raven, and the Broncos' younger safeties could stand to learn under the future Hall of Famer.  The Broncos, who are the 2014 Las Vegas Super Bowl favorites, appear to be a perfect match for Reed.

Former safeties John Lynch and Brian Dawkins both finished their careers in Denver after spending time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Philadelphia Eagles, respectively.  Both Lynch and Dawkins performed very well with the Broncos, but each fell short of helping the Broncos get back to the Super Bowl.

Reed, a ball-hawking, nine-time Pro Bowler, could help put the Broncos over the top.  That is why Elway and Co. should pursue him this offseason.
