Liverpool Transfer News: Reds Land Chelsea Striker Daniel Sturridge

Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool have made the first big splash of the midseason January transfer window, signing former Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge according to the club's official website on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old forward has scored 13 goals in 63 Premier League appearances with the Blues since joining the English powerhouse in 2009. Before then, Sturridge played three seasons with Manchester City.

Sturridge has one goal in seven EPL appearances (including one start) for Chelsea this season. At Anfield, he will join forces with gifted scorer Luis Suarez, who leads the Reds with 13 goals in EPL play this season.

Sturridge had the following response to the move from Stamford Bridge to Anfield (via LiverpoolFC.com):

I am humbled and happy to be here...Brendan Rodgers said he sees me here for a long time - and I also see myself here for a long time. I've not signed here to play for a couple of years and then move on. I've signed to be here for as long as possible. It's a humongous club - for me, one of the biggest in the world - and to have the fans and world-class players we have here is amazing.

In addition to boasting years of professional experience in the Premier League, Sturridge has international experience having played for Great Britain's Olympic football team this past summer in London.
