Summer Transfer Rumour Stock Watch: Who's Hot, Who's Not?
If you want to know which player's transfer value is up and which player's transfer value is down, this is the article you should be reading.
Like the stock market, transfer values are knee-jerk, so Przemysław Tytoń's transfer stock spiked after saving Giorgos Karagounis' penalty.
With the summer transfer window set to open, the transfer stock of players is something of great magnitude.
8. Simon Kjær
1 of 8Increased Transfer Stock
What a game Simon Kjær had against the Netherlands. He defended valiantly, he listened to Daniel Agger and most importantly Kjær didn't make a mistake that led to a goal conceded.
He was atrocious during his loan period for Roma, as he consistently made error after error.
What happened to the assertive Kjær of Palermo?
Given that Kjær is no longer on speaking terms with Felix Magath (Saddam strikes again), the Dane won't return to Wolfsburg.
Roma have yet to offer Kjær a permanent contract, but if he has a dominant Euro 2012 tournament, Roma may take a risk on the talented centre-back.
His agent added: "If there should not be an agreement with Roma, we will evaluate the proposals of the other interested clubs."
7. Christian Eriksen
2 of 8Decreased Transfer Stock
Christian Eriksen was disappointing against the Netherlands.
He struggled to deal with the pugnacious duo of Nigel de Jong and Mark van Bommel. De Jong isn’t a regular at Manchester City and Van Bommel isn't world-class by any stretch of the imagination.
Eriksen was anonymous against Brazil as he failed to cope with Sandro. The Ajax midfielder had no end product against the modest Australians.
If Eriksen continues to play like this, he would be right in staying at Ajax, as he told Goal.com:
"I think the best thing for me will be to play for Ajax next season. I would like to play in one of the big leagues —the Premier League, La Liga or Serie A—but I'm only 20 and I have time. I've seen players move too soon.
My captain at Ajax [Jan Vertonghen] has waited for the right time in his career to leave Ajax. He says I should stay next year and I agree with him.
"
6. Andrey Arshavin
3 of 8Increased Transfer Stock
Andrey Arshavin turned the clock back with a stunning display against the Czech Republic.
He’s playing for his long-term future because he probably won’t return to Arsenal and he isn’t in the good books of Zenit chief executive Maxim Mitrofanov:
"Arshavin is part of our club but, with all due respect to him, he will only stay in the event that he proves himself useful as an active player. Not as a man making up the numbers.
"
Translation: Arshavin hasn’t played with a sense of urgency at Zenit—same can be applied to his unfulfilled career at Arsenal.
5. Yann M'Vila
4 of 8Decreased Transfer Stock
Yann M'Vila has no weaknesses as a defensive midfielder but his transfer value has dropped this season, much to Rennes’ chagrin. Étienne Capoue and Rio Mavuba outperformed M'Vila in Ligue 1. M'Vila was arrested for assault last month. His ankle injury could affect his mobility during Euro 2012.
4. Alan Dzagoev
5 of 8Increased Transfer Stock
Alan Dzagoev’s contract expires at the end of the year, according to transfermarkt.co.uk.
He was the Man of the Match against Czech Republic, scoring a brace in the 4-1 win.
Dick Advocaat plays with two quasi-playmakers, as Andrey Arshavin and Dzagoev spend most of their time dictating play from a central position—even though they’re left and right forwards respectively.
Ideally a club should start Dzagoev as an attacking midfielder but he’d play well as an wide attacking midfielder in a 4-2-3-1.
3. Bruno Uvini
6 of 8Decreased Transfer Stock
Bruno Uvini forgot how to play the offside trap, his tackling was weak, he was caught out of position several times—is that you, Rafael Scheidt?
What a Scheidt-like performance from Bruno in such a massive game that is Brazil vs. Argentina. No wonder Tottenham Hotspur chose not to sign Bruno.
2. Hulk
7 of 8Increased Transfer Stock
Porto is rejoicing with every goal Hulk scores or creates for Brazil—three goals and an assist in three games so far. Ironically, he hasn’t been dominant at all.
He faced a Denmark team that forgot how to defend in the first 45 minutes.
He was decent against the United States but there was no end product.
Lionel Messi overshadowed a relatively good game from Hulk.
Hulk is physically impressive and technically superb—there is no one like him in world football. There's no reason why he can't put up the same numbers as Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Brazilian has the ability, but he doesn't have the mentality because he could have scored five against the Danes if he wanted to—but he didn't.
Talking about Brazil, how about Oscar? He was one of the best players during the FIFA U-20 World Cup and he’s been delivering great diagonal balls from deep.
1. Robin Van Persie
8 of 8Decreased Transfer Stock
Bert van Marwijk refused to blame Robin van Persie for the Netherland’s inability to score against Denmark.
If the Dutch fail to perform, the person to blame is Van Marwijk.
He played Van Persie as a wide attacking midfielder throughout the Euro qualifying campaign, before throwing the Arsenal forward up front, knowing full well that the word “pass” fails to resonate with Arjen Robben.
How is Gregory van der Wiel the starting right-back for the Dutch? He couldn’t stop Simon Poulsen from providing the pass that led to Michael Krohn-Dehli scoring.
Considering that the right-back committed seven errors that led to goals for Ajax this season, it shouldn’t surprise Van Marwijk that Van Der Wiel is a defensive liability.
Van Marwijk started Ibrahim Afellay, who hasn’t been the same since moving to Barcelona.
Why didn’t Van Marwijk throw on Luciano Narsingh?
By the way, the back-up left-back in the squad is Stijn Schaars, who is a centre midfielder.
If the Dutch somehow win Euro 2012, it will be in spite of Van Marwijk.
Talking about Van Persie, he didn’t perform at the 2010 FIFA World Cup—will it be the same at Euro 2012?
When a team isn’t built around him, he is not a world-class player, and Manchester City need to know that before submitting an inflated transfer bid for the Arsenal forward.
