Miami Dolphins Need to Give Up on Peyton Manning Before It's Too Late

Erik FrenzMar 14, 2012

You can wait on that 10 to say yes to being your date to the prom, but if you wait too long, all the 7's will have dates too.

It feels like the Miami Dolphins fade further and further in the sweepstakes with every passing minute without a Peyton Manning update. And although the team continues to hold out hope, when does the time come to douse the flame with a wet blanket of reason?

While Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald thinks that the Dolphins are still alive in the hunt for Manning, could holding out hope possibly be interfering? This tweet from Salguero seems to suggest that:

"

Paul Soliai scheduled to leave on Broncos visit this eve. Talks w/ Dolphins not where he wants. Team is STILL reserving room for Manning.

So, too, would this tweet from Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post:

"

DE Kendall Langford has a visit set up with #Bengals tomorrow, and might set one up with #Patriots. #Dolphins and #Falcons also interested

— Ben Volin (@BenVolinPBP) March 14, 2012"

Both Langford and Soliai have been solid defensive linemen for the Dolphins, but yet they are prepared to let both walk because they still think they have a shot with Manning?

It's unclear whether the Brandon Marshall trade had anything to do with their desire for the free agent QB (Marshall's agent, unsurprisingly, said it didn't).

The Dolphins are bent on getting the quarterback position figured out in free agency. They can't afford to pause too long on Manning and miss out on free agent quarterback Matt Flynn, who has scheduled a visit with the Seattle Seahawks.

And on it goes.

As the Dolphins continue to fail to go all-in for Manning, it looks more and more like a rebuilding year.

But with a new coaching regime taking over in Miami, that shouldn't come as much of a surprise.
