NBA Rumors: Dwight Howard Trade to Lakers Continues to Make Most Sense
Well, we have our latest "Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers" trade rumor making the rounds.
And not surprisingly, it isn't all that different from the rumors we've heard surrounding Howard to the Lakers in the past. From Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel:
"There's a rumor circulating involving Howard, where the deal actually will come down March 1.
"
It goes something like this: The Magic send Howard, SF Hedo Turkoglu and Nelson to the Lakers; the Magic receive Bynum and Gasol. The salaries are close to matching up, making the deal work.
We've been down this road before.
As Schmitz notes (and has elsewhere been reported), Howard apparently isn't keen on joining Kobe Bryant and playing for the Lakers.
Still, from Orlando's perspective this makes a lot of sense. They get two elite players on the block (who are veterans rather than unproven youngsters), they dump Turkoglu's contract and they get something in return for Howard, who could just walk this offseason.
It works for the Lakers as well, who get Howard and add Nelson, a much-needed upgrade at the point guard position.
Logic dictates this trade must happen (though it may also be that I'm simply tired of talking about Dwight Howard rumors—that could be a factor as well).
This makes a lot of sense for Howard, while we're at it.
A starting five of Nelson, Kobe, Matt Barnes, Turkoglu and Howard would be nasty and give Howard his best chance to win a title in the next two to three years (unless the Dallas Mavericks could somehow clear enough salary to sign him and Deron Williams, which still seems unlikely).
And Howard gets to be a star in Los Angeles, playground of the stars.
Let's stop delaying the inevitable and just make this happen already. Everyone wins.
Especially everyone around the NBA sick of hearing about Dwight Howard.
