Knicks Rumors: Chauncey Billups Will Be a Dreadful Pickup for Any Other Team
According to Yahoo! Sports, the New York Knicks are nearing a deal with Tyson Chandler.
If that is to happen, however, the Knicks will have to use their amnesty clause on point guard Chauncey Billups.
And Billups doesn't appear to be too happy about that. Per the Yahoo! report:
"“He’s irate under the circumstances,” Billups' agent, Andy Miller, said. “He felt this would be his final destination, and he was promised that he would be playing for a team that was going to be competing for the playoffs. He has no intention of being open-minded about any possible situation where a team would claim him off waivers unless it’s a team he chooses himself. Buyer beware.”
"
Yikes.
That doesn't sound good at all.
First of all, Billups is 35 years old. I realize point guards can still be effective at later ages, but this isn't Jason Kidd.
Billups relies on his quickness, and it's obvious that he's declining. If I was signing him, I wouldn't want him as anything more than a sixth man.
And now this?
Wherever he goes, he's just going to pout and whine.
Declining skills and a "not want to be there" attitude. That's a deadly combination.
Deadly as in bad, of course.
If I'm running a team, I'm staying far away from Billups. Usually if guys are let go or traded, they are at least professional for a while.
If they get to a team and don't like it, then they'll probably speak up. But to have someone pouting about changing teams before it's even happened is a bad sign.
When it comes down to it, Billups appears ready to be a big, fat cancer to whatever team he ends up with.
"Buyer beware" is right, indeed.
