7 Shows to Watch This Friday Without a New WWE SmackDown

The Doctor Chris MuellerDec 1, 2011

With SmackDown airing a live special this past Tuesday WWE fans are left without a show to watch on Friday.

For those of you who are not planning on going out on Friday I would like to present some options for what to watch.

WWE appeals to fans of all ages so the list will include everything from family-friendly movies to adult-themed dramas and action movies to sports.

WWE looks to be reshowing the live special this Friday, but if you already saw it Tuesday then please consider these options as an alternative.

Note, all the options listed air during SmackDown's time slot.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas on ABC Family

1 of 7

If you have kids, are a kid yourself, a kid at heart or just like Jim Carrey then you may enjoy watching this remake of the classic story How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

The original animated feature is always a classic, but this version of the film starring real people in crazy costumes was not as well received as its predecessor.

That does not mean it is not a fun movie to watch though. Carrey has an undeniable talent for physical comedy which adds to his performance as the green party pooper.

Other notable names who appear in the film are Taylor Momsen, Jeffrey Tambor, Clint Howard and Christine Baranski

If you are looking for a fun, family-friendly way to spend your Friday now that SmackDown is not an option, then this may be the best one for you.

PAC-12 Football Championship: UCLA at Oregon on FOX

2 of 7

Friday night Fox will be airing the PAC-12 Championship game between the UCLA Bruins and the Oregon Ducks.

This will be an interesting game for college football fans. The last time these two teams met, the Ducks defeated the Bruins 60-13 with Darren Thomas throwing 308 yards and three touchdowns.

If you are a sports fan who is not going to be watching the repeat of SmackDown on Syfy then this could be the best way to spend you Friday night.

The game begins at 9PM Eastern time on FOX.

Addams Family Values on AMC

3 of 7

One of my favorite sequels of all time is playing this Friday and I just may have to tune in. Addams Family Values airs this Friday on AMC during the normal slot for SmackDown on Syfy.

This movie is the sequel to the hugely popular film starring the late Raul Julia and Anjelica Houston as the creepy Addams family parents.

It is hard to believe this movie came out almost 20 years ago because the humor and creativity behind it still stand up to today's films.

The star-studded cast also includes Christopher Lloyd as the lovable Uncle Fester, Christina Ricci as the disturbing Wednesday Addams, Joan Cusack as Debbie Jellinsky and Carol Kane as Granny.

While not as successful as the original, this was a strong sequel which will always be welcome on my television screen.

New Jack City on BET

4 of 7

Wesley Snipes might be behind bars at the moment, but anyone who saw him in New Jack City knows he can handle himself

The film starring Wesley Snipes and Ice-T may not be regarded as one of the best by Criterion, but it is one of Snipes' most memorable roles.

The film also includes Chris Rock as Pookie in one of his first roles on screen.

The film tells the story of an egotistical drug lord who rises to power while a renegade cop pursues him in hopes of saving his city.

This movie is violent, filled with obscenities, and great fun for any fan of Wesley Snipes or cheesy early '90s films.

If you are looking for something entertaining without having to think too much while watching, then New Jack City should be your ticket.

The A-Team on Cinemax

5 of 7

The original television show with Mr. T was great, but this remake was not as enjoyable judging from every review I have read.

That being said, the movie is still fun to watch for entertainment purposes, and if you are fans of any of the actors involved then you should be able to enjoy it a little bit.

Liam Neeson stars as Hannibal, leader of the A-Team, a group of former soldiers who are now on the run from the law doing odd jobs to protect citizens.

Bradley Cooper, Jessica Biel, Sharlto Copley and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson round out the cast of this modern day B action movie.

The A-Team begins at 8:30 PM Eastern Time on Cinemax.

On a slightly related topic, am I the only one seeing a slight resemblance between Bradley Cooper and Zack Ryder? I could be seeing things but I swear Ryder looks more like this guy every week.

Scarface on Encore

6 of 7

I really don't need to say much about Scarface to make you want to watch it. This is by far one of the most popular Pacino movies ever made.

In it he plays a drugged-out psychopath to perfection. Most fans who may not have seen this will at least be familiar with his most famous catchphrase from the film.

"Say hello to my little friend" has been repeated so many times by so many people that we may as well put it on the dollar bill as our country's new slogan.

Scarface starts at 7:05 Eastern Time on Encore.

Doctor Who on Netflix

7 of 7

I wouldn't be a very good Doctor if I didn't tell you to watch Doctor Who now would I. As one of the longest running and most popular institutions in television history, watching Doctor Who is a great way to entertain yourself.

Luckily Netflix has you covered. Every episode of the series since it was brought back in 2005 is available for viewing through the streaming service.

Whether you choose to start at the beginning with Christopher Eccelstone's ninth Doctor, go to the middle and watch David Tennant travel in the TARDIS as the 10th doctor or watch the current Doctor Matt Smith you sure are in for a good time.

Each man brings his own unique portrayal of the Doctor to life while also paying respect to those who have come before them by not changing the character too much.

The Doctor also takes companions along on these journeys through space and time. Unfortunately for the Doctor Who world Elizabeth Sladen passed away on April 19.

Sladen was known as Sarah Jane Smith in the Doctor Who universe and was widely regarded as the most popular companion the Doctor ever had, even to the point of earning her own spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Please take the time to watch this tribute video I included dedicated to Elizabeth Sladen. It includes comments from those who knew her and acted alongside her during her amazing career.

Rest in peace, my Sarah Jane.

Well there you have it, seven options for what to watch this Friday without a new episode of SmackDown. Please feel free to leave your Friday viewing suggestions below.
