NFL Week 12 Picks: Predicting the Week's Biggest Winners

Andrea HangstNov 22, 2011

Four games ended in blowouts in Week 11, and in examining the matchups for Week 12, clearly the possibility is there for four more teams to rout their opponents this week as well.

In the following slides, I will detail four matchups between surging teams and sinking opponents that have the greatest likelihood of ending with a major point disparity.

New England Patriots (at Philadelphia Eagles)

1 of 4

While the New England Patriots continue to suffer serious injuries to their already-struggling defense, leaving them exposed to defeat at the hands of a well-organized and high-powered offense, the Philadelphia Eagles hardly fit that bill this season.

The Eagles are a shadow of the offensive powerhouse they were in 2010, and they have certainly not lived up to the high expectations placed on them at the beginning of the 2011 season. Though they managed a win last week over the New York Giants, they did so while appearing flat on offense and showing sparks of talent on defense.

We've seen those sparks before, and they're not sustainable. Look for the Patriots to come to town on Sunday and dismantle the Eagles defense with their multifaceted offensive attack, defeating Philadelphia by 20 points or more.

Pittsburgh Steelers (at Kansas City Chiefs)

2 of 4

The Kansas City Chiefs managed to rack up the yards on the New England Patriots' injury-riddled defense in Week 11, but a far more stout Steelers squad is coming to town in Week 12, and with it, they will hold Kansas City's offense to less yardage than in Week 11.

All those yards didn't add up to much for the Chiefs, garnering their three points from a lone field goal. Look for the Steelers to hold Kansas City to a similarly low number while their highly productive offense marches down the field at will.

While the Chiefs defense appeared tough against the Patriots, it actually isn't all that scary this season. Kansas City's weak defense and ineffectual offense won't have much of a chance against the far superior Steelers.

Cincinnati Bengals (vs. Cleveland Browns)

3 of 4

Though the Cincinnati Bengals have dropped to third place in the AFC North, that's simply because they're one of three teams in the division that are extremely strong.

The odd team out, the Cleveland Browns, are next on the Bengals' schedule, and they shouldn't prove to be anything close to a challenge.

Cleveland cannot produce on offense, and their defense hasn't improved from where they were in 2010. At the same time, the Bengals have managed to be the most-improved team in all of the AFC, parlaying a rookie quarterback, a rookie wide receiver and a bruising defense into a possible wild card playoff berth.

This game has no potential to be close, Cleveland is just too weak.

Seattle Seahawks (vs. Washington Redskins)

4 of 4

Though it seems strange to predict that the Seattle Seahawks will blow out anyone this year, with the lowly Washington Redskins up ahead, it seems like this is the one game the Seahawks can best their opponent by 15 points or more.

Inconsistent to be sure, the Seahawks have still managed impressive wins over the New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens this season. At home, with the significant noise of Qualcomm Stadium stifling the visiting team's offensive cohesion, they're quite the force to be reckoned with when they play well.

And whether or not the Seahawks truly play well this week against Washington, they'll surely look like world-beaters. The Redskins are failing to produce on offense, whether Rex Grossman or John Beck is under center and whether it's Roy Helu, Ryan Torain or even Tashard Choice running the ball.

While Washington fields a top-10 defense, it hasn't done them any good. The Redskins have dropped their last six games in a row thanks to mistake after mistake; look for Seattle to be the next team in a long line that capitalizes on them in a big way.
