WWE Survivor Series: Top 10 Moments from Sunday's Show
WWE Survivor Series 2011 was a good pay-per-view last night. It was well worth the money and a great way to spend Sunday night.
Anyone who didn't see the show missed out on a great night.
WWE came through in the world's most famous arena, Madison Square Garden. They made it matter when it mattered most. Great job, WWE!
With all the praise out of the way, let's get to the top 10 moments of Survivor Series 2011.
10. Dolph Ziggler Wrestles Twice
1 of 10I did not like it last month. I did not like it last night. It went exactly as I feared.
Ziggler squashed John Morrison in the opener (shocking some people thought it would go otherwise), and he looked terrible on Team Barrett later in the evening.
Why was he in the tag team match again? What was the point? None. He took up a spot, wrestled in two matches and was not needed.
One minute later, Randy Orton pinned him.
There was no reason for Dolph Ziggler to be in two matches, and I really hope it does not happen again.
9. Zack Ryder Gets His Moment
2 of 10I am not a big Zack Ryder fan. He is a good talent inside the ring and has charisma. My only issue is his gimmick.
Sadly, none of that matters in New York. He was a "star" last night and got some nice shine in the opening match. Nobody cared about Morrison, so Ryder was the focus from Madison Square Garden.
Following the easy win for Dolph, Ryder came out and attacked him. He did not get his United States title match (yet), but he did get a great reaction at WWE Survivor Series.
8. Glam Slam
3 of 10Beth Phoenix and Eve had a nice match. It was not as good as their previous contests, but I enjoyed it. Beth retained, and a new challenger should step up soon.
The best part of the match was the ending.
A top rope Glam Slam was just incredible to view. I really hope Eve is okay. That was a sick bump to take, and safety comes first in this business.
7. Sin Cara Injured
4 of 10Speaking of staying safe, this is just a very unfortunate incident.
According to WWE, Sin Cara will be anywhere out between six to nine months after he suffering a patella tendon rupture.
For those wondering, it looked like he injured himself when he planted his feet to jump over the top rope onto Hunico. It was not when he landed or even when he hit the ropes on his way down.
It was from "lift-off."
It is a tough break for Sin Cara. Good luck in recovery.
6. Barrett and Cody Survive
5 of 10The first thing I noticed in the Team Barrett versus Team Orton match was the weak elimination of Sheamus. I understand protecting top guys, but that was pretty bad.
Other than that, I loved the match.
Randy Orton took another loss, as Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes were the victors on this night.
Everybody was used perfectly (except Sheamus's exit), and Cody and Wade look like a million bucks. As expected, Orton is making two new stars slowly but surely.
People are too busy throwing around words like "buried" or "politics" whenever something "wrong" happens, but Orton may be the MVP of the past year.
5. Main Event Video
6 of 10I mentioned in the past week that WWE never really built up The Rock's return to the ring as a big deal.
They promoted his match teaming with John Cena, but they never focused on this being his first match in over seven years.
During the pre-show (and the actual show), WWE aired an amazing promo video. I was just in awe at how WWE never aired this on Raw or SmackDown.
It was great and was pure money.
We should have seen that promo all week promoting The Rock at Survivor Series. I could not find a link, but those who saw the show know how great it was.
4. Madison Square Garden
7 of 10The crowds at Madison Square Garden have always been excellent. Last night, they proved it again.
Giving Howard Finkel a great reaction was very emotional to watch. Chanting for Ryder in the opener was cool. Going crazy for CM Punk was amazing to hear.
They got out of line a few times, but that was expected. Some chants were pointless and just not needed, but they were entertaining.
Awesome audience in New York City.
3. CM Punk vs. Alberto Del Rio
8 of 10These two put on a great match. There is no other way around it. My hat goes off to both men last night.
I would have held off on the WWE title change until next month at TLC, but this was still an epic moment. The New York crowd was firmly behind Punk, and they reacted to the title change in kind.
It was clear Alberto's time as champion was on borrowed time, but it still was a nice title reign.
Going one more month would have added some more prestige to the belt, but nothing can take away from Punk's huge win.
2. Mark Henry Is Still World Champion
9 of 10The praise for Mark Henry is not going to stop.
He walked out of New York City still the World Heavyweight champion. He and The Big Show had another great match, which featured many fun spots.
The top rope elbow drop by Show was just scary to watch. It reminded me of Brock Lesnar on the top rope at WrestleMania XIX.
You could almost see Big Show trying to talk himself out of doing the move. Either way, he connected and it made for an awesome MSG moment.
It looks like WWE is building towards a Chairs Match between the two monsters at the TLC PPV. That is fine by me. Henry will win there and perhaps move to a new opponent.
Speaking of new opponents, why were people thinking Daniel Bryan would cash in here?
As I have said many times, he needs to be far away from the title picture until WrestleMania. Teasing anything else would make him a heel.
New York crowds are the best but come on.
Great job by WWE to prolong this feud one more month, but the result won't be any different. Mark Henry is never losing the world title!
1. WWE Got Rocked
10 of 10How great was The Rock last night?
He sang some Frank Sinatra. He cut a great promo. He looked to be in amazing shape. Everything inside the ring was crisp. All of his actions were top notch.
The Rock and John Cena teased some more tension on the way to their WrestleMania XXVIII match, while The Miz and R-Truth shined in yet another main event.
I loved it.
WWE handled this night as perfectly as they could have. Others will still bring up "Cena turning heel" for the 657,846th time this year, but I stay in the real world.
I try to stay away from "fantasy booking" at all costs.
Rocky took out Cena with a Rock Bottom to close the show, and fans went home happy. All the PPV viewers at home were left with a great final shot of The Rock standing tall over Cena.
Where does the story go from here? You have to tune in tonight to WWE Raw and find out.
