Why Dan Henderson Will Wear UFC Gold

G DNov 20, 2011

Dan Henderson entered the sport of mixed martial arts in June of 1997 when he defeated Crezio de Souza in his debut.

Henderson would go on to post an impressive 9-0 record on route to joining Pride in December of 2000.

"Hendo" quickly became recognized as one of the best well-rounded fighters in mixed martial arts as he was declared victorious in 13 of his 18 career bouts.

Following his career in Pride, Henderson would move on to join the Ultimate Fighting Championship as his legacy quickly began to grow.

Henderson would post a subpar 3-2 record before joining the organization of Strikeforce and eventually returning to the UFC.

It was later announced that Henderson would meet Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 139 in San Jose, California.

But, there were many questions as to if Henderson was washed up, too old or even good enough to compete in the UFC anymore.

Well, Henderson answered all questions and put away any doubt in what would go down as arguably the greatest performance of all time.

Henderson and Rua engaged in a five round all-out war type of fight until the final bell rang.

Henderson was declared the victor as the judge's scorecards read 48-47, 48-47 and 48-47.

Not only did Henderson prove his critics wrong but something much greater.

The 41-year-old light heavyweight proved he is more than capable of wearing UFC gold.

After a dominating performance, Henderson once again displayed his exceptional striking skills which have caused many to believe he is the hardest hitter in all of mixed martial arts.

And, while Henderson may have to wait to receive his title shot, it's certainly coming.

Also an Olympic wrestler, Henderson is an overwhelming threat to any 205-pound opponent in the light heavyweight division.

Dan Henderson will wear UFC gold before all is said and done.
