UFC on FOX Results Video: Did Cain Velasquez Tap out to Strikes?
Junior dos Santos asserted himself as the No. 1 heavyweight in MMA last night when he knocked out Cain Velasquez in the main event of UFC on FOX 1. The heavyweight took just over one minute to become the new UFC heavyweight champion, handing Velasquez the first loss of his career in the process.
There is no debate that dos Santos won the fight. But new video evidence has emerged that has created a bit of controversy.
The official record book will say that dos Santos won the fight by knockout due to punches, but did we all miss something in real-time that should change result of the fight?

Thanks to a slow-motion replay provided by a member of The Underground Forum, we have a better view of what happened. The replay gives us an interesting angle of now former champion Cain Velasquez eating punch after punch from dos Santos. He rolls over onto his belly to avoid taking damage, but it appears that he also might have tried to stop the fight early by tapping out with his right hand.
It's hard to say from the video that we have, but the discussion is now open, as it appears that he might have been tapping out.
Some are saying that it looks more like he his arm is just flailing around while taking relentless ground-and-pound from one of the hardest-hitting fighters in the entire sport, but many others are now saying that he was attempting to give up just seconds before referee John McCarthy called a stop to the fight.
One thing that should be pointed out is that there is nothing wrong with tapping out due to strikes. No, he wasn't in serious danger of injury, but being knocked unconscious is not a good thing for the human body. He didn't get completely knocked out, but that was definitely on its way to happening if dos Santos was allowed to continue crushing his face with those devastating punches and hammer-fists.
So what do you say, Bleacher Report world? Was Velasquez tapping or not? Your comments are appreciated on this suddenly controversial subject!
