On December 30th, 2011 Brock Lesnar will make his return to the Octagon after being off for more than a year.

In his first fight back, Lesnar will take on UFC newcomer Alistair Overeem. While Overeem has yet to take part in a UFC bout, he is considered one of the most dangerous heavyweights in the world.

However, this is exactly what Lesnar wanted according to UFC President Dana White.

"

Lesnar asked for the toughest test we could find for him and there’s no doubt that Alistair Overeem fits the bill. He’s been a champion in other organizations and came to UFC to fight the best guys in the world.

"

White continued to address Lesnar and his return to the UFC when he stated,

"

He wants to show everyone that he’s the number one heavyweight in the sport. This fight is the perfect fight to close out 2011.

"

While Lesnar and Overeem will certainly be fighting for a win come December 30th, news recently broke that they'll be fighting for much more.

White also announced that the winner of Lesnar vs. Overeem will be the heavyweight's No. 1 contender and will move on to receive a title shot against the winner of Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos at UFC on FOX.

UFC 141 will take place live on pay-per-view beginning at 7:00 p.m. PT and 10:00 p.m. ET.
